The Angel of Death recruits Piper to help with the back log. ========================== CHARMED 7X05: STYX FEET UNDER ========================== FADE IN: [TRIQUETRA] [Scene from 7X04: Charrrmed!] [INT. MANOR - MAIN HALL -- DAY] (Paige has just learned that Darryl and Sheridan have been staking them out.) PIPER: Apparently Sheridan wants us real bad. (Paige looks surprised.) HOLLY MARIE COMBS (NARRATOR): (v.o.) Previously on "Charmed". [INT. POLICE STATION - BULLPEN - DAY] (Sheridan reaches for the phone.) SHERIDAN: I'm calling the Feds. (Agent Brody disconnects the line for her.) AGENT BRODY: You want the Feds? You got 'em. (He shows them his badge.) (Cut to: Agent Brody look at Darryl.) AGENT BRODY: You're pretty protective of the sisters, aren't you, Lieutenant? DARRYL: I've known them a long time. [TRIQUETRA FLASH TO] [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - NIGHT] (Leo confesses to Piper.) LEO: I've been seeing things lately. Hearing voices. I don't know if they're real or not, but they seem like they are. [TRIQUETRA FLASH TO] [INT. TREASURE ISLAND - CAVERN - DAY] (Sheridan holds her gun on Piper and Phoebe. Phoebe holds the Golden Chalice in her hand with the elixir that can save Paige.) SHERIDAN: Face down on the ground! (A gun fires.) (Sheridan falls to the floor. Behind her, Agent Brody has his gun raised and aimed at where Sheridan stood.) (Darryl turns around, his gun pointed at Agent Brody.) (Agent Brody backs off.) AGENT BRODY: Dart gun. [TRIQUETRA FLASH TO] [INT. THE BAY MIRROR - BULLPEN - NIGHT] (Phoebe and Leslie St. Claire argue about her missed date and his rigging the "contest".) PHOEBE: You don't know me. (She takes a step closer to him. He steps closer to her. Their argument continues.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: You won't let me know you. PHOEBE: That's not true. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: You're afraid of getting involved with me because you're afraid of getting hurt again. (Phoebe kisses him. Leslie kisses Phoebe.) (Their argument forgotten, the two start removing each other's clothing.) FADE TO END OF PREVIOUSLY ON FADE IN. [EXT. INT. CAR (PARKED) -- DAY] (Piper and Paige are sitting in Piper's SUV parked across from the Chapel on the military base. They are both on their cell phones - Piper with P-3 and Paige with Phoebe. Their conversations overlap.) PIPER: (o.s.) (to phone) This is ridiculous. We need more than ten cases of beer. PAIGE: (to phone) Look, we can't keep doing this, Phoebe, because Piper and I actually have lives. PIPER: (to phone) Ok, call Phil at the beauty bar, and he will lend you a couple cases of beer. I will call the distributor tomorrow. PAIGE: (sighs) (to phone) No, Phoebe, I haven't seen the demon or half-demon or whatever the hell he is. Yeah, I think demon fighting is important, but you, missy, are at home doing research, and Piper and I are here on the front lines. BOTH: Uhh. I got to go. Bye. (They both hang up.) PAIGE: Why is it every time Phoebe runs away from a guy that we actually pay for it? PIPER: I know. She sleeps with Leslie, and suddenly she's got us chasing demons all over town while P-3 falls apart. PAIGE: And she has to get her active powers back, because we can't keep picking up the slack. PIPER: I wish the demon would hurry up and attack already. PAIGE: You know, it's okay. I cast a protection spell on the innocent, so it should be all right. PIPER: Excuse me? You did what? PAIGE: I cast a protection spell, because, you know, you can't keep watching them all the time. PIPER: Paige, protection spells backfire. That's why we don't use them. PAIGE: Don't worry about it. I got the spell from my best grad student. I'm all over it. PIPER: Well, it better be, because the chaplain's on the move. (In front of them on the sidewalk, their innocent, Chaplain Arthur Casey, heads for the Chapel.) (Paige uses the binoculars to see what's going on.) PIPER: He's going in alone. Come on, put that down. PAIGE: I have to put my shoes on. (Piper and Paige both get out of the car.) CUT TO: [INT. CHAPEL - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (The Chaplain is on his knees praying on the steps at the front of the church. A man in a hooded cloak appears behind him.) SIRK / KEVIN: Come to pray, have you, Arthur? (Arthur stands up and turns around.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Who's that? (Kevin turns a little and Arthur catches a glimpse of him.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Kevin? SIRK / KEVIN: That's actually my human name. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Human? (Kevin turns fully to look at Arthur. He sees that there's something to the left-side of Kevin's face.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): What's happened? (He pushes his hood down and shows Arthur the demon-side of his face.) SIRK / KEVIN: This? Oh, it's just a little ritual I've been performing to reveal who I truly am -- or who I hope to be soon. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): What -- what are you talking about? SIRK / KEVIN: My real name is Sirk, from my father's side. He was a demon, and I will be complete as soon as I have eliminated the last of my human lineage. And that's where you come in. (Kevin powers up an energy ball.) (Piper and Paige push open the front doors and walk into the Chapel. Kevin throws the energy ball at Arthur and hits him square in the chest. Arthur flies backward and hits the wall behind the offering table.) (Piper waves her hands and blasts Kevin from the back.) SIRK / KEVIN: Ouch. (Kevin magically gets to his feet.) SIRK / KEVIN: Well, that really stings. (He waves his hand and shoots a stream of electricity at Paige and Piper. Paige and Piper both dive for the floor barely missing getting hit.) PAIGE / PIPER: Unh! (Arthur slowly gets up and peers out from behind the offering table.) PIPER: How many powers does this guy have? PAIGE: Arthur, get down! (Kevin is surprised to hear that Arthur is still alive.) SIRK / KEVIN: What? (He holds out his hand and powers up a fireball. He turns and throws it at Arthur. The fireball heads for Arthur, but Paige orbs it out of its current path toward a new target.) PAIGE: Fireball! (The fireball turns and curves around. It heads straight for Kevin.) (Kevin shimmers out of the Chapel, barely missing getting hit.) (Paige and Piper both stand up from behind the pew. Piper rushes forward to check on Arthur. Paige squints her eyes as she looks at Arthur who is also getting to his feet.) (In the center of his chest where the energy ball hit, Arthur has a big hole in his chest. Piper walks around him and looks at Paige through the hole in Arthur's chest.) (Paige grimaces.) PIPER: Nice protection spell, sis. (Paige shrugs.) FADE TO END OF TEASER ROLL TITLE CREDITS (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [INT. MANOR - SITTING ROOM -- DAY] (Leo grimaces as he glances through the hole in Arthur's chest. He waves his hand which he looks at clear through Arthur's other side.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): How did this happen?! PHOEBE: (shakes her head) Uh, actually, we're not really sure. (Piper walks into the room carrying an overcoat.) PIPER: Would you mind covering up? It's a little unnerving. (She hands the coat to Arthur. He puts it on. Piper moves to sit next to Leo.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): But ... how am I still alive? PAIGE: You see, I kind of cast a protection spell. LEO: You cast a what? PIPER: Already been there, done that. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): A spell. PHOEBE: Yeah, but the spell she cast was clearly a very, very bad idea. PAIGE: I had to do something. We couldn't just sit around and wait for demons to attack, because, you know, Piper and I actually have lives. PIPER: Don't drag me into this. PAIGE: What? We agreed that the only reason we are out hunting for demons constantly is because Phoebe won't deal with her Leslie issues. PHOEBE: Wait. I have Leslie issues? LEO: Okay, you guys, we have issues right now with the Chaplain. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): I have to get out of here. I got to find my wife. (Arthur runs out of the room.) PIPER: Uh ... PHOEBE: Uh, Paige, would you mind? (Paige rolls her eyes and orbs out of the room.) PHOEBE: We can't have him running around San Francisco looking like that with Agent Brody snooping around. (Paige and Arthur orb back into the room.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): (gasps) What are you people? PHOEBE: We're witches. It's okay. Just relax. PAIGE: Okay. (Arthur plops down on the chair behind him.) PAIGE: Okay, my spell got us into this mess. I'll figure out a way to reverse it. I'll just add it to the long list of things I have to do in magic school. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Can you tell me if I'm alive ... or dead? LEO: Uh, well, the thing is-is ... we're not really sure. ANGEL OF DEATH: (o.s.) I might be able to answer that question. (Everyone turns around toward the sound of the voice. Arthur stands up and turns around. In the hallway, stands a man dressed all in black.) PHOEBE: And you would be ... ? ANGEL OF DEATH: I'm the Angel of Death. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Ohh. (Arthur faints. He falls back into the couch, the couch hits the table, knocking over the lamp. It shatters.) ANGEL OF DEATH: I knew your sister, your mother, of course, and your grandmother. (He steps into the room.) LEO: All right, we get the point. What do you want? PAIGE: Do you kill people? ANGEL OF DEATH: No, Paige, I don't kill. I merely claim the souls of those who have already died. PHOEBE: And you're here for who now? ANGEL OF DEATH: Oh, don't worry -- not any of you. No, this time ... I'm here for him. (He points to Arthur. Piper turns to look.) The problem is, I don't seem to be able to claim his soul yet, even though he's dead. It's fascinating, really. I've never had this problem before. Any ideas why now? PAIGE: (sighs) I cast a spell. ANGEL OF DEATH: A spell? You trapped a soul with a spell? PAIGE: It wasn't intentional. ANGEL OF DEATH: Reverse it now. PIPER: Hey, listen, tall dark one. If we give you him, the demon gets what he wants, and then we won't be able to stop the demon. ANGEL OF DEATH: You don't understand. (He holds out his hand and snaps his fingers. In a puff of white smoke, a parchment with two lists on it appears in his hand. On the left is a list of those "DEAD" and on the right is the list of those "TO DIE".) ANGEL OF DEATH: People have to die in order, according to my list. Otherwise, the cosmic balance is thrown off. PHOEBE: You have to give us some time to figure out what to do with the demon. ANGEL OF DEATH: The demon is not my concern. I'm neutral. All I care about is maintaining the grand design, but in order to do that, I must claim the soul of the Chaplain soon. I'll be back. (The Angel of Death disappears.) (Phoebe turns around to issue instructions.) PHOEBE: Okay, this is what we're going to do. PAIGE: (interrupts) No. WE are not doing anything, until YOU deal with Leslie. PHOEBE: Paige, are you crazy? There's a demon on the loose. PAIGE: You're right, but you're not dealing with it. We are, because you don't have active powers. PHOEBE: (scoffs) Ohh. This is ridiculous. PIPER: Look, all I know is that since you've slept with the fella, all you've been talking about is demons and vanquishings and ... PAIGE: ... and, see, the thing is that Piper and I have lives. We're not on sabbatical. PHOEBE: Ok, so what do you want me to do? PIPER: (exasperated) Talk to Leslie. PHOEBE: Fine. I will talk to him. Paige, you figure out a way to reverse your spell. Piper, you work on the vanquishing potion and take care of that innocent. I'm going to go talk to Leslie. (Phoebe turns to leave.) PIPER: Good luck. (Paige orbs out. Piper turns to Leo.) PIPER: Okay. I think you should go let the Elders know what's going on. (Arthur's eyes suddenly open as he regains consciousness. Leo stands up. They walk a few steps together toward the doorway.) LEO: Oh, I don't know if I can keep facing them, Piper. (Unknown to them, Arthur gets up, sneaks up and out of the room.) PIPER: Yes, you can, Leo. You did great last time, and we really need you to do this. Please? (Leo orbs out.) (Piper sighs and turns around to deal with Arthur ... who isn't there.) (She looks around the room. There's no sign of him.) PIPER: (groans) Oh, great. CUT TO: [INT. HOSPITAL - EMERGENCY ROOM -- DAY] (The ER Doctor uses the defibrillation paddles on the patient on the table. The heart monitor next to him gives off a steady flatline beep. He looks at the nurse. She shakes her head, no.) (He checks for a heart beat.) ER DOCTOR: (to the nurse) Call it. Time of death, 11:35 A.M. NURSE: 11:35 a.m. We'll make a note of it. (The Angel of Death stands unseen near the doors.) ANGEL OF DEATH: It's your time. ER DOCTOR: Get his wallet. Get his I.D. (The Angel of Death holds out his hand to the dead patient and beckons his soul.) ANGEL OF DEATH: Come. ER DOCTOR: Find out what happened from the paramedics -- allergies, meds. (The Dead Patient's Soul glows and starts to rise out of the body. About halfway out, the Dead Patient's Soul stops. He looks around and struggles to free himself.) DEAD PATIENT: I can't move. ANGEL OF DEATH: What do you mean? Your time has come. Now free yourself. (With nowhere else to go, the Dead Patient's Soul return back to his body. The monitor starts to beep again.) NURSE: Doctor! (The ER Doctor returns to the patient's side, stunned to hear a heartbeat.) ER DOCTOR: How in the world ... (The Angel of Death stands near the double doors absolutely stunned by what just happened. Through the glass window in the door, we see Sirk/Kevin just outside standing in the hallway. The door opens.) SIRK/KEVIN: Looks like we both have a problem. (Sirk/Kevin withdraws closing the door behind him.) [INT. HOSPITAL - HALLWAY - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (The Angel of Death hurries through the hallway to find Sirk/Kevin hiding behind a cart of supplies.) ANGEL OF DEATH: How is it that you see me, Demon? SIRK/KEVIN: It's simple. With each life I take, I absorb whatever gifts they have. ANGEL OF DEATH: You can have your gifts. I just want my souls. SIRK/KEVIN: And I want you to have them. That's why I'm here -- to help. The witches, they've really screwed up the natural order, haven't they? ANGEL OF DEATH: The witches stopped one death with their spell, that's all. SIRK/KEVIN: No, no, no, no, no. They've stopped many deaths, just like the one in there. Don't you see it? By messing with the grand design, they've created ... a bottleneck-- one where death literally ceases. (This surprises the Angel of Death.) That's the only explanation. Perhaps by combining our vast array of gifts, you can learn how to reverse the protection spell yourself. Then ... (Sirk/Kevin puts his hand familiarly on the Angel of Death's shoulder.) ... we can both just move on. (The Angel of Death considers the offer.) CUT TO: [INT. THE BAY MIRROR BUILDING - MAIN LOBBY -- DAY] (Phoebe is in the lobby standing in front of the elevator contemplating pushing the elevator door button - or not.) (She almost presses it, her finger hovering over the button, but finally withdraws.) PHOEBE: (to herself) Oh! Oh! You can do it. You can do it. (She tries again.) PHOEBE: Come on. I can't do it. (Phoebe gives up. She turns intending to leave.) PHOEBE: I got to go. (Phoebe starts to leave.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: (o.s.) Phoebe? (Phoebe walks straight toward Leslie.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Where have you been? I've been calling you for days. PHOEBE: Hey! Yeah, well, you know, I'm just -- I'm so busy, Les. You know me, busy little bee. (Phoebe tries to walk past Leslie, but he stops her.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: W-wait. Weren't you -- weren't you going in? PHOEBE: No, actually, I was -- I was coming out. Okay, I call you. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: No, you won't. You're -- you're avoiding me. PHOEBE: I am not avoiding you. Okay. M-maybe I'm avoiding you, but it's just-- it's just a very, very little bit. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Are you sorry about what we did upstairs? Is it ... ? PHOEBE: No. No. I mean, you know ... it was great. I mean ... of course I'm not sorry, you know, but ... (Leslie rolls his eyes.) ... uh, I just -- I don't know. I think that maybe I feel like we don't really know each other. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Look, Phoebe, what happened was ... it was great. PHOEBE: (sighs) Yeah. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: We -- we didn't do anything wrong. PHOEBE: I know. I just ... I don't know if I'm ready for this, w-whatever this could potentially be. I mean, I don't -- I don't know if I'm ready for it. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Because of me or because you're in trouble? PHOEBE: What -- what do you mean, trouble? LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Oh, some cop came by yesterday asking questions about you -- FBI or something. Oh, what was his name? Um ... Brody. Agent Brody. (Phoebe bites her lower lip and looks down.) CUT TO: [INT. POLICE STATION - DARRYL'S OFFICE -- DAY] (Darryl sits behind his desk looking at Agent Brody.) DARRYL: I don't know what you want with me, Brody. AGENT BRODY: All right, clearly, you want to say something to me. (He sniffs sand removes his badge.) AGENT BRODY: So go ahead. Pretend I'm not a Fed. (He tosses the badge on the desk in front of Darryl.) AGENT BRODY: No ranks. (Darryl gets to his feet and closes the door.) DARRYL: Look, I just don't want to end up like Inspector Sheridan, okay? Look ... I got kids. (Darryl walks up to Brody.) AGENT BRODY: (chuckles) Sheridan? She got transferred to another district, that's all. DARRYL: I saw you shoot her in the neck with a tranquilizer dart. AGENT BRODY: She's fine. Trust me. DARRYL: That's just it. I don't trust you. AGENT BRODY: Yeah, well, you're going to have to start, because I'm going to need your help to get to the Halliwells. DARRYL: Not this again. (firmly) No. AGENT BRODY: What? You don't even know what I want with them. (Darryl sits back down behind his desk.) DARRYL: No ... and I don't want to know. Look, the sisters and I may not be getting along well right now, but I sure as hell don't wish them any harm. AGENT BRODY: I'm not going to harm them, okay? I just need their help. DARRYL: With what? AGENT BRODY: With something. (He hesitates.) I would've let Sheridan bust them, expose them. I have been on a trail for years that has just now led me to them, and as soon as they know that I know that they're magical and that I'm not a threat to them, they're going to have to help me. So unless you want to get transferred like your buddy Sheridan, I suggest you help me. (Brody picks up his badge and his jacket. He leaves the office, slamming the door closed behind him.) CUT TO: [EXT. SIDEWALK TO DOCTOR'S OFFICE BUILDING -- DAY] (Somewhere on the street, a car horn beeps. Twice.) (Harriet Casey rushes up the front steps to the building. Arthur runs up from behind to catch up with her.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Harriet! (He grabs her hand and turns her around.) HARRIET CASEY: (gasps) Oh! Artie. Goodness, I didn't see you there. What are you doing here? Are you all right? You don't look so well. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Don't worry about me. Listen, there's not a lot of time. HARRIET CASEY: Are you getting sick? ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): No. I'm ... there's just so much I want to say to you, so much I have to say to you. I just wanted to see you. HARRIET CASEY: Artie, you're scaring me. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Do you still have the keys to the safety deposit box? HARRIET CASEY: Of course I do. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Well, everything's in there -- you know, just in case something should happen to me. You know, I kind of worry about stuff like that. HARRIET CASEY: (smiles) Artie, I'm ... (She sighs.) Kind of late for the doctors'. ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Oh. Well, go, go, go, go. HARRIET CASEY: Are you going to be home for dinner? ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): Um ... probably not. (He kisses her.) ARTHUR CASEY (CHAPLAIN): I love you. HARRIET CASEY: I love you, too. (She rushes up the stairs to the building door. She turns and looks back at him as she slips inside the building. He nods back at her.) (Arthur turns to leave. He steps back on the sidewalk.) ANGEL OF DEATH: (o.s.) Arthur? (Arthur turns around to look at the Angel of Death.) ANGEL OF DEATH: I've been looking all over for you. CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC -- DAY] (Piper sits at the table holding a crystal over a map. Paige orbs in.) PAIGE: Hey. PIPER: Hi. Please tell me you found a way to reverse the spell. PAIGE: No. Not without losing the chaplain, I haven't, which means the demon ... (Piper picks up the crystal and tries again to scry.) PIPER: ... demon will become whole. I know. But, honestly, he scares me a hell of a lot less than the Angel of Death does right now. If I don't find the chaplain ... PAIGE: What do you, "find him"? Where'd he go? PIPER: He ran off, and I can't find him because your spell is protecting him. (The crystal circles and falls on the map.) PIPER: At least it was. You didn't lift the spell? PAIGE: No. I told you I didn't. PIPER: Then who did? (They look at each other.) CUT TO: [EXT. ALLEYWAY -- DAY] (Arthur Casey is on the ground. The Angel of Death slowly waves his hand over Arthur's body.) (Paige and Piper orb into the alleyway.) PAIGE: Uh, what have you done? ANGEL OF DEATH: What I should have done in the first place. I've reversed your spell and took the Chaplain's soul. PIPER: And you helped a demon in the process. (The Angel of Death stands up.) ANGEL OF DEATH: On the contrary. Your demon helped me. PIPER: You can't do that. You're supposed to be neutral. ANGEL OF DEATH: Circumstances were unusual. Your spell had unforeseen consequences. PAIGE: What kind of consequences? ANGEL OF DEATH: People have to die in the order on my list. If one person doesn't, all death ceases. Now I have to work overtime to collect the souls I've been unable to claim, to undo the damage you've done to the grand design. PIPER: Damage? We've done more than almost anyone to protect your grand design. PAIGE: (to Piper) Look, we should leave it. We have a demon to go after. PIPER: We've given up a lot to make sure you have less work. I have two kids and a business, and I still find time to fight demons, too. It's not our fault you can't keep up. (Piper turns and opens the wire gate. She exits the alleyway, turning her back on the Angel of Death. After a beat, he takes off after her.) ANGEL OF DEATH: That isn't my problem. [EXT. SIDEWALK - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (Piper and Paige leave the alleyway. The Angel of Death continues to follow them.) PIPER: It sure as hell isn't my problem. PAIGE: Stop yelling at Death. (A car horn beeps as it stops to let Piper and Paige cross the street.) PIPER: I don't care. He is getting on my last nerve. ANGEL OF DEATH: You witches created this mess, not me. But you're gonna help me clean it up. (The Angel of Death reaches out his hand in front of him and closes it into a fist as if grabbing something out of thin air. Piper collapses to the sidewalk.) PAIGE: Piper? (A man rushes over to help.) MAN: What happened? (A crowd gathers.) PAIGE: I don't know. She just fell. MAN: Call 911. (The Man and the crowd scramble to assist.) (Piper appears on the sidewalk standing near her body.) PIPER: What's going on? (She looks down and finds that she's dressed all in black. A very similar garb to the Angel of Death that just killed her.) PIPER: (realizes) Oh, no. ANGEL OF DEATH: I told you, I need your help. PIPER: Wh-what did you do to me? ANGEL OF DEATH: It's a practical matter. If you're alive, you won't be able to help with the backlog, to take souls to where they have to go. PIPER: No. Hold it, buddy. If you -- ANGEL OF DEATH: (interrupts) Do your job, and I'll return your soul. (The Angel of Death holds out his hand and a parchment appears in his hand.) ANGEL OF DEATH: I suggest you get going. (He steps toward Piper.) You've a lot of catching up to do. (Piper grabs the list from his hand. She barely glances at it before turning to glare at the Angel of Death.) (The Angel of Death disappears. Piper and Paige are left standing in the middle of the busy sidewalk in front of Piper's dead body.) FADE OUT (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. STREET -- DAY] (The Coroner's office wheels out Arthur's body on a gurney from the alleyway. Across the street, Paige stands over Piper's dead body on the sidewalk. Dead Piper stands next to her. Obviously, no one else can see Dead Piper. Officers are putting up crime scene tape around the entire section of the sidewalk.) PIPER: Well, do something. PAIGE: What do you want me to do? It's easy for you to say, dude, you're dead. PIPER: That's just crazy, 'cause I'm not supposed to be. PAIGE: What are you yelling at me for? It's not my issue! INSPECTOR: Excuse me, miss? PAIGE: Yes. (Out of habit, Dead Piper also answers.) PIPER: Yes. (Paige glares at Dead Piper whom the Inspector can't see standing right next to Paige.) INSPECTOR: Again, I'm sorry for your loss. PAIGE: It's okay. PIPER: Could you sound a little more upset, please? PAIGE: (tries again) I mean, it's really sad. You know, I feel like my sister's spirit is around me. INSPECTOR: Of course. Now, earlier, you told the officer that you two were walking by, and your sister just ... fell. No warning, nothing? PAIGE: Yeah, no, no warning. INSPECTOR: You didn't happen to notice the body in the alley there? PAIGE: No, I didn't. (A Coroner walks up to the Inspector.) CORONERS: Uh, forensics is done. We're gonna take the bodies, if it's okay with you. INSPECTOR: Go ahead. (Dead Piper's eyes widen and she gasps.) PIPER: Where are they taking me? PAIGE: Uh, where are you taking her? INSPECTOR: To the morgue. After the autopsy, we'll release your sister's body to you. PIPER: Oh, no, no, they can't do that, they can't do that! PAIGE: (to Piper) Stop yelling in my ear. (to the Inspector) No. No, you can't do an autopsy because, you see, it's against our ... religion. INSPECTOR: I'm sorry. This is a murder investigation. State law. If you think of anything that might be able to help, please, give us a call. (The Inspector hands Paige his card. She takes it and he leaves.) PIPER: Okay, starting to panic. (Paige sees something.) PAIGE: Oh, no. PIPER: Oh, no? What can more be "oh, no" than they're taking my body away or an autopsy? (Paige crosses her arms.) PAIGE: Agent Brody. (Piper sees Agent Brody standing on the other side of the street.) PAIGE: Yeah. PIPER: What's he doing here? PAIGE: Mm, probably watching me talk to myself. (Sure enough, Agent Brody is calmly looking at Paige.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - LIVING ROOM -- DAY] (Phoebe walks out of the Conservatory into the Living Room. Paige orbs in.) PHOEBE: Paige, where have you been? I was worried. PAIGE: Actually, I ... PHOEBE: Did you reverse the spell? PAIGE: No, but someone has. PHOEBE: Wait a minute, Missy. What's going on? Where's Piper? (In a whisp of smoke, Piper appears in the Living Room.) PIPER: (unsteady) Whoa. (Phoebe turns and sees Piper magically appear.) PHOEBE: Whoa, how'd you do -- What are you wearing? PIPER: (to Paige) You didn't tell her. PAIGE: No. (rolls her eyes) Okay, fine. Piper's dead. PHOEBE: What? PIPER: (drolly) I'm not dead. I'm Death. As if my life wasn't busy enough already. PHOEBE: What?! PAIGE: Okay, long story short. (Paige sits down.) Um ... Death has temporarily recruited Piper. (Piper holds out her hand and a parchment appears.) PIPER: And now I have to collect all the souls on this list before the coroner starts cutting up my body. PHOEBE: Cutting up your body? PIPER: Autopsy. (Phoebe gasps.) (Piper looks down at the list and sees the various names of the dead crew members. Right before her eyes, some names disappear while new ones appear on them.) PIPER: Why are these names changing? PAIGE: I don't know. Maybe we should call Leo. PIPER: Maybe we should call Death. PHOEBE: So does this mean the demon's working at full force now? PAIGE: If he is, why hasn't he attacked? PIPER: Excuse me. Can we focus on the person with the non-dead problem over here? (She motions dramatically to herself.) PHOEBE: Let me see that list. PIPER: (shrugs) Well, it ... (Phoebe walks over to Piper and grabs the list from her.) PHOEBE: So Sirk was killing his family members to become full demon, right? So that would mean he would have to get rid of his human soul. PAIGE: Huh? PHOEBE: Well, if he succeeded, Sirk's name would be on the dead list, right? And it is not. PAIGE: That would mean he has a family member alive somewhere. PHOEBE: Right. We have to track down that person before he does. PIPER: Excuse me, I have souls to collect. (Piper disappears.) PHOEBE: (to Paige) Where did she go? CUT TO: [INT. HOSPITAL - ER ROOM -- DAY] (A woman cries next to the bed of her recently deceased husband. The Nurse walks up to the monitor and turns it off.) (As she walks away, we note Piper's also in the room watching the scene unnoticed. She turns and jumps when she sees the dead husband standing next to her. The Dead Husband is dressed in white robes.) PIPER: Oh! You scared me. DEAD HUSBAND: I scared you? Who are you, and what's happening? (Piper turns to look at the body back on the bed.) PIPER: Well, I think you might actually be ... you know, dead. (He turns and looks at her.) PIPER: (sympathetically) I know. Bummer, huh? DEAD HUSBAND: Are ... you here to take me away? PIPER: I don't know. I think so. See, I'm kinda new at this. FLASH TO: [INT. HOSPITAL - ER ROOM - DAY -- LIMBO] (Suddenly, The Dead Man and Piper are both standing in a different place. The ER room is empty and cast in a blue-ish tinge. All the contents, supplies and people are gone.) (They look around the room wondering where they are. Before the Dead Husband can say anything, the double doors leading out of the room open.) [INT. HOSPITAL - HALLWAY - DAY -- LIMBO] (Piper and the Dead Husband step out into the hallway.) DEAD HUSBAND: W-what's happening? PIPER: Good question. (They look around. Suddenly, a white, whirling vortex appears in front of them.) DEAD HUSBAND: Where does that go? PIPER: I'm not sure, but I think I'm supposed to take you in there. What do you say? (She holds out her hand. He takes it.) (Together, they walk toward the whirling vortex.) PIPER: If it makes you feel any better, I'm a little scared, too. (They both disappear into the vortex. FLASH TO: [INT. UNDERWORLD - SEER'S CAVE] (Sirk/Kevin is enraged.) SIRK / KEVIN: You lied to me! (He powers up an energy ball and throws it at the Seer who calmly shimmers out of the energy ball's path.) SEER: I'm a Seer. Hello. I saw that coming. SIRK / KEVIN: I did everything you said-- I killed every last member of my family, and yet, still, I'm part-human. SEER: Oh, so just 'cause I can see the future, it must be my fault? SIRK / KEVIN: Give me an answer! SEER: Relax. Did you kill all of your blood relatives? SIRK / KEVIN: Yes. SEER: Every last ... little one? SIRK / KEVIN: Do you want to join 'em? SEER: You'd think since your first threat failed so miserably, you'd be a little bit nicer to me. You've obviously missed somebody. (She waves her hand over the pool of silvery-colored liquid. It immediately begins to ripple.) SEER: There has to be ... another. (Sirk/Kevin looks down at the pool and laughs as he sees something.) SIRK / KEVIN: Nice. CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - CONSERVATORY -- DAY] (Leo watches the news report on KTMV6. It's LIVE, BREAKING NEWS of a DEATH IN THE STREETS.) NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) It's unclear whether the death of local club impresario Piper Halliwell is related to the Death of Chaplain Arthur Casey, but police insist every possibility is being investigated. (Phoebe walks into the room and stops next to Leo and watches a little bit of the news report.) NEWS REPORTER: (from tv) We'll have more on this story at 11:00. (Leo turns the television set off.) LEO: This is really bad. PHOEBE: Leo, relax. Piper's been dead before. LEO: Not like this, not on the midday news. What if the kids find out? PHOEBE: They're at magic school. (Paige walks into the room. She's on the phone mid-conversation.) PAIGE: (to phone) We're very, very sorry, too. Thanks for your condolences. Bye. (She hangs up and looks at Phoebe and Leo.) PAIGE: Okay, I think this is too big for even us to cover. PHOEBE: What about the cleaners? LEO: They won't help, not after last time. If Piper suddenly wakes up in the morgue, you have to explain it. PAIGE: So what are we gonna do? PHOEBE: Well, we'll figure something out. We always do, and in the meantime, we have to find the Demon before he kills another relative. PAIGE: Ok, you know what? I'm gonna call Darryl and see if I can get him to postpone the autopsy. LEO: I'm gonna go to magic school and stay with the kids. (Leo orbs out of the room. The doorbell rings.) PHOEBE: All right, now what? (Phoebe goes to answer the door.) [INT. MANOR - FOYER - DAY - CONTINUOUS] (Phoebe opens the door and is completely taken aback when she finds Leslie St. Claire standing on her front porch.) (He takes a step forward toward Phoebe.) PHOEBE: (surprised) Leslie. Hold that thought. (She puts her hand in the center of his chest and firmly pushes him back out of the house. She closes the door on him. Phoebe turns to Paige.) PAIGE: I thought you dealt with him. PHOEBE: No. I said I saw him. I did not say I dealt with him. PAIGE: Well, you need to get rid of him, because we have a little bit going on right now, okay? (Phoebe growls as she heads back to the front door.) (Paige dials her cell phone to make the call to Darryl. She hears the other line ring.) [EXT. MANOR - FRONT PORCH - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (Leslie is standing down on the bottom of the stairs. He turns to look at Phoebe.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: I just can't believe it. You've gotta be in shock. (He walks toward her.) PHOEBE: Uh, yeah, you know, I am, but things happen, you know? (They both sit on the stairs.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: I just don't understand. Was Piper even sick? PHOEBE: No, she wasn't. It was all very sudden. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: You sure are handling this awfully well. PHOEBE: Yeah, well, you know, I'm okay. Uh, it's hard, but I'm trying to stay strong for Paige. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: I understand. PHOEBE: Mmm. There's just so much to do ... LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Well, can I help with anything? PHOEBE: I don't even know where to start. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Well, it's always good to start with people you need to contact. I could help make a list. (Phoebe stares at him.) PHOEBE: Wait -- what did you just say? LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Make a list, you know, friends, family. People like that. (The front door opens. Paige steps outside.) PAIGE: Phoebe, um, can we talk? (Phoebe gets to her feet and heads toward Paige.) PHOEBE: Yes. Just one second. (to Leslie) Thank you so much for coming by. I really appreciate it. (Leslie stands up.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: I thought I was gonna help you make a list - PHOEBE: Yeah, I really need to spend some time with my sister, you know. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Well, of course. Um ... just call me if you need anything. PHOEBE: I will. I will, definitely. Thanks. (Phoebe hurriedly kisses Leslie.) PHOEBE: Okay. Bye! (Leslie turns and starts walking slowly back to his car. He looks back at Phoebe.) PHOEBE: Bye. (Paige steps forward toward Phoebe.) PAIGE: Ok. I struck out with Darryl. PHOEBE: It doesn't matter. I think I know how to find out who the demon's going after next. (Phoebe smiles and waves to Leslie.) PAIGE: How? PHOEBE: Piper's list. The name will be on it. Come on. (Phoebe and Paige turn and head back into the house.) CUT TO: [INT. MILITARY CHAPEL -- DAY] (Harriet Casey sits on the front pew in the Military Chapel.) SIRK / KEVIN: Harriet. (Harriet turns around.) HARRIET CASEY: Do I know you? (In the next pew behind her, Sirk/Kevin sits hunched over, his face covered.) SIRK / KEVIN: We've never met. I'm Arthur's cousin Kevin. (He looks up at Harriet finally revealing the half of himself that's demon- like.) SIRK / KEVIN: But you can call me Sirk. (Startled, Harriet stands and tries to make it to the chapel door.) (He grabs her arm stopping her. His hand goes over her belly, sensing the child within.) SIRK / KEVIN: Ah, so it's true. You are going to be a mother. HARRIET CASEY: How did you know? SIRK / KEVIN: I have many gifts, and unfortunately for you, I just need one more. (Harriet pulls away from him. Sirk/Kevin stands up. He powers up an energy ball and holds it in his hand.) (Piper appears next to Harriet.) SIRK / KEVIN: Oh, no, you can't interfere. You're neutral. (Piper steps forward.) PIPER: You're right. I can't. But they can. (She points behind Sirk/Kevin.) (He turns around and finds Paige and Phoebe standing behind him. Phoebe kicks him in the face knocking him down to the ground.) (Phoebe rushes over to Harriet. She motion for Paige to join them.) PHOEBE: Come on. PAIGE: (to Harriet) It's okay. You're gonna be all right. (Paige orbs them out.) (Sirk/Kevin gets to his feet and looks at Piper.) SIRK / KEVIN: So how did you... PIPER: Know? I saw her name on the list. (Piper holds out her hand and the Death List appears. She glances at it.) PIPER: But it's not there anymore. SIRK / KEVIN: It will be again. One way or another. (Sirk/Kevin shimmers out of the chapel.) (Piper looks at the list and it changes again. This time, a new name appears at the top of the TO DIE list.) PHOEBE HALLIWELL (Camera holds on Piper.) FADE OUT (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [INT. MAGIC SCHOOL - GREAT HALL] (Paige, Piper and Phoebe talk.) PHOEBE: Wait, so now you don't want me to help you vanquish the demon? I don't understand. PIPER: Phoebe, that's not the issue. PHOEBE: Names come and go off that list all the time. Harriet's did. So what's the big deal? PIPER: The big deal is sometimes the names don't come off the list. PHOEBE: Well, ours does. PIPER: Not always. (Leo walks into the Great Hall.) PAIGE: How's it going? LEO: She's resting. It's a lot to swallow -- your husband's dead, magic exists, and, by the way, a demon's after you. How you guys holding up here? PIPER: Fine. Once Phoebe realizes that she's better off here where she's safe. PAIGE: Oh, here they go again. PHOEBE: We've cheated death before, Piper. So why can't we do it again? PIPER: Because we can't this time. I can't. PAIGE: Maybe you should just listen to her. PHOEBE: Maybe she should focus on collecting the souls so her death isn't permanent. PIPER: This is going nowhere! (Piper heads out of the Great Hall.) LEO: Where are you going? PIPER: I'm not in the mood to lose another sister. (She vanishes.) PHOEBE: (sighs) So what's our next move? PAIGE: Our next move is for you to stay here because you are on top of the list, you have no active powers, and Leo and I are just going to go take care of the demon. Honey, you just need to accept it. (Paige and Leo both orb out.) (Phoebe stands in the Great Hall. Alone.) CUT TO: [INT. HOSPITAL - HALLWAY] (Piper is back at the busy hospital hallway. The Angel of Death appears and sees Piper. She turns to look at him.) PIPER: I'm not doing this anymore. I give up. I quit. ANGEL OF DEATH: You can't quit, Piper. Not until you catch up. (They walk toward the hallway.) PIPER: You can't make me take my sister's soul. I won't do it. ANGEL OF DEATH: We don't get to decide who lives or dies. Only circumstances can change someone's fate. PIPER: Well, then I won't collect any more souls. I'll go on strike. ANGEL OF DEATH: So to save your sister, you would threaten to stop all death. PIPER: You got it. ANGEL OF DEATH: That's rather selfish of you, don't you think? Unless, of course, you think that Death is pointless. PIPER: Well, I ... ANGEL OF DEATH: It's not, you know. Far from it. Life only has meaning specifically because there is an end. Death is what forces people to live. PIPER: Yes, but-- ANGEL OF DEATH: Which means that ending death effectively ends life, throws off the entire cosmic design, the whole point, and for what? A single fleeting life? This is bigger than your sister, Piper. Much bigger. (The Angel of Death vanishes leaving Piper to ponder everything.) CUT TO: [INT. UNDERWORLD - SEER'S CAVE] (Sirk/Kevin is back at the Seer's cave, angry at the Seer.) SIRK / KEVIN: The sisters had Death's list. They knew who I was trying to kill! SEER: And you knew about the woman's unborn child. Foreknowledge is a bitch sometimes. SIRK / KEVIN: But it didn't help me. I'm so close to losing this foul human soul, but The Charmed Ones ... still thwart me. SEER: Well, they are The Charmed Ones, and they're pretty good with the thwarting. SIRK / KEVIN: I want to peel the flesh from their bones while they still live. SEER: Okay, just because we're demons doesn't mean we always have to be so ... eew. SIRK / KEVIN: Just tell me how to defeat them. SEER: And you'll stop with the gross flesh-peely talk? Because there is an old Seer's trick that might be able to help you here. SIRK / KEVIN: Oh, like you helped last time. SEER: Hey, premonitions don't come with a guarantee, okay? Do you want my help or not? (Sirk/Kevin nods.) SEER: See. Whenever someone knows the future, you can always get the drop on them by knowing the future, too. (The Seer waves her hand over the cauldron of silvery-liquid. It starts to ripple.) SEER: So you can change it. CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC -- NIGHT] (Paige tests a drop of the new vanquishing potion in front of Leo. It explodes impressively.) (Piper appears in the attic.) PIPER: Where's Phoebe? PAIGE: She's back at magic school. PIPER: But she's still on my list, and she's next. LEO: What happened with the Angel of Death? PIPER: He's stubborn. Did you find Sirk? PAIGE: No. He found us. Telepathically. He wants to call a truce. PIPER: It's a trap. We need to keep Phoebe at magic school long enough -- PHOEBE: (o.s.) It's too late. (They turn around. Phoebe's walking into the attic.) PIPER: Phoebe? What are you doing here? PHOEBE: Remembering what we're all about. PIPER: What we're all about is keeping you alive. PHOEBE: Not at the expense of an innocent. PIPER: Phoebe, this death thing might not be very real to you, but it is very real to me. I've seen it. I am it. PHOEBE: Piper, we've all seen it, and it's never stopped us before. PIPER: That's before we knew you were next on the list. Why are you not listening to me? I'm trying to save you. PHOEBE: Because this isn't just about me. Look, I don't wanna die, but I'm not gonna sit around and wait for an innocent to die either. And I think that's why I needed to take that sabbatical -- to remind myself of that. (Not saying a word, Piper vanishes.) PHOEBE: Are you finished with the vanquishing potion? PAIGE: Well, yeah, but -- PHOEBE: Paige, he doesn't know we know. We'll use this to our advantage. When he focuses on me, you just focus on him. (Paige sighs.) DISSOLVE TO: [EXT. ALLEYWAY -- NIGHT] (Sirk/Kevin sits in the alleyway waiting. Leo and Phoebe orb in.) SIRK / KEVIN: Interesting. I was expecting more of a family affair, like, perhaps your other sister. PHOEBE: You wanted to discuss a truce? Discuss. (Sirk/Kevin stands up and walks over to them.) SIRK / KEVIN: All right. Here's the offer. You give me my cousin's wife, and I won't kill you. PHOEBE: That's it? That's your offer, huh? No deal. Forget it. SIRK / KEVIN: In that case, I guess I'll just have to kill ... (Sirk/Kevin whirls around and shoots a beam of electricity behind him at Paige. He hits her square in the chest. Paige falls down. Dead.) SIRK / KEVIN: (smugly) ... her. (Phoebe gasps.) (Phoebe and Leo run over to Paige. Leo immediately tries to heal her.) SIRK / KEVIN: Didn't see that comin', did ya? PHOEBE: Why isn't it working? LEO: We're too late. PHOEBE: What do you mean?! (Piper appears in the alleyway next to Paige's body.) (Paige's soul rises out of her dead body. Like the others who were dead before her, she's dressed all in white. Phoebe can't believe what's happening. Paige looks at Piper, then she looks at herself.) PAIGE: What's going on? Why am I in this? PHOEBE: Piper, do something! PIPER: I can't. (Phoebe and Leo look at each other, then down at Paige's dead body.) FADE OUT (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. ALLEYWAY -- NIGHT] (Phoebe looks at Piper.) PHOEBE: Piper, you can't do this. You can't take her. PIPER: Do you think I want to take her? I don't have a choice! PHOEBE: Yes, you do. Just don't take her. Take me instead. LEO: That's not how it works, Phoebe. PHOEBE: I wasn't on the list. PIPER: Circumstances changed. PHOEBE: Yeah, because I changed them! It's not her fault! PIPER: It's not anybody's fault. FLASH TO: [EXT. ALLEYWAY - NIGHT - LIMBO -- CONTINUOUS] (The world around Piper and Paige change. Paige looks around, her arms wrap around herself to ward off the chill.) PAIGE: This isn't good, right? (Piper turns to look at Paige.) PIPER: I'm so sorry, Paige. It's much easier if you just let go. (Piper turns and walks toward the alleyway. Paige slowly follows her.) (At the end of the alleyway, the white, whirling vortex appears.) PAIGE: Where does that go? PIPER: To where you're supposed to go. Don't be afraid. I'll be with you the whole way. (Paige nods. She takes ahold of Piper's hand and they head toward the vortex together.) CUT TO: [EXT. ALLEYWAY - NIGHT -- CONTINUOUS] (Phoebe kneels down next to Paige's body.) PHOEBE: Oh, god, this can't be happening. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. (Suddenly, Phoebe gasps as she receives a premonition.) (Quick flash of: [INT. MAGIC SCHOOL] Harriet runs from Sirk/Kevin. He's laughing. He powers up an energy ball to throw at her. Harriet screams.) (End of premonition. Resume to present.) PHOEBE: (startled) I think I just had a premonition. LEO: What? How? PHOEBE: I don't know. I must have earned back my powers somehow, or at least one of them. (Phoebe takes the potion bottle out from Paige's hand.) PHOEBE: We have to save Harriet. CUT TO: HARRIET CASEY: (o.s.) How did you get in here? [INT. MAGIC SCHOOL - GREAT HALL -- NIGHT] (Harriet backs away from Sirk/Kevin as he walks into the Great Hall.) HARRIET CASEY: She told me it was -- SIRK / KEVIN: Protected. Oh, it is-- from demons, not witches. That's just another little gift I picked up when I killed one of the sisters, uh ... (He snaps his fingers to remember her name.) SIRK / KEVIN: Paige, I think her name was. (He holds out his hand and powers up an energy ball.) SIRK / KEVIN: Do say hello to her for me, won't you? (Leo and Phoebe orb into the Great Hall behind Sirk/Kevin. Phoebe throws the potion and hits Sirk/Kevin in the center of his back.) (He is immediately engulfed in flames.) (Harriet runs over to Phoebe and Leo. Sirk/Kevin turns around and sees Phoebe and Leo. The flames quickly rise up and vanquish his demon-half. Kevin cries out in pain.) SIRK / KEVIN: (anguished) I'm human! (Sirk/Kevin falls down dead.) (The Angel of Death appears over the dead body.) ANGEL OF DEATH: Interesting how our paths keep crossing, isn't it? (Kevin's soul rises out of his dead body.) SIRK / KEVIN: What happened? (The Angel of Death holds out his hand.) ANGEL OF DEATH: Come. (Phoebe stops him.) PHOEBE: Ah, ah, ah! Not so fast. I want Paige's soul back. (The Angel of Death puts his hand down.) ANGEL OF DEATH: Sorry. You know the rule PHOEBE: Yeah, I do, better than you think. Check your list. He's not on it. (The Angel of Death checks his list.) PHOEBE: We changed the circumstances. ANGEL OF DEATH: First, you want to stop a soul from moving on, and now you want to add one. LEO: Not add. Trade. His soul for Paige's. ANGEL OF DEATH: This is unprecedented. KEVIN: (interrupts) What? No, you can't do that. PHOEBE: (ignores him) Keeps your precious cosmic balance in order, doesn't it? What have you got to lose? KEVIN: You can't be taking her seriously. PHOEBE: Dude, you're dead. Start acting the part. ANGEL OF DEATH: This has been quite a remarkable day ... even for me. PHOEBE: So what do you say? Do we have a deal? CUT TO: [EXT. ALLEYWAY - NIGHT - LIMBO -- CONTINUOUS] (On the edge of entering the vortex, Paige turns to Piper.) PAIGE: Piper ... I have something to tell you. PIPER: Paige ... PAIGE: You know that brown suede coat? You thought you lost it but, um ... it's in my closet. And those earrings you liked. I borrowed them and I never gave them back. PIPER: (nods) You're stalling. PAIGE: (nods) I know. But you can't blame a girl for trying. (They both turn back toward the vortex.) ANGEL OF DEATH: (o.s.) I wouldn't do that if I were you. (They look behind them and find the Angel of Death and Kevin.) ANGEL OF DEATH: Your sister made a trade. (The Angel of Death waves his hand and hurls Kevin unmercifully into the vortex. Kevin yells in pain. The vortex closes.) ANGEL OF DEATH: See you ... (The Angel of Death vanishes.) CUT TO: [EXT. ALLEYWAY -- NIGHT] [PAIGE'S HAND] (Her fingers move.) (Camera moves up to Paige's face. She's on the ground where she had died. Her eyes suddenly open and she takes a breath. Paige gets up and looks around.) (She sighs with relief.) CUT TO: [INT. HOSPITAL MORGUE -- NIGHT] (Camera moves slowly along the row of dead bodies on gurneys in the morgue. Their feet stick out from under the sheet, the toe tags uniformly attached around the left foot's big toe.) (Dissolve to: Camera rests on Piper's toe tag: HALLIWELL, PIPER 30874 ) (Alive once again, Piper gets up.) (She sits up on the gurney and sees the dead bodies around her.) PIPER: Eew. (She turns and gasps. Sitting in the corner of the morgue near the door is Agent Brody. He's been waiting for her.) AGENT BRODY: Talk about your miracle recoveries. (He stands up and walks over to her.) PIPER: What are you doing here? AGENT BRODY: Confirming my suspicions ... (He gives her some clothes and shoes.) AGENT BRODY: ... Even though I don't quite understand it yet. (He peers under the sheet of the body next to her. He puts the sheet down.) PIPER: What do you want? (He looks at Piper.) AGENT BRODY: I want to help you get out of this mess. I want to tell the local authorities that you were working undercover for me to help solve the chaplain murder. I want to tell them that I asked you to fake your own death. PIPER: What's the catch? AGENT BRODY: The catch is that I'm going to need your help with something even greater. I'll be in touch. (He leaves.) FADE TO: [EXT. VARIOUS SAN FRANCISCO CITY LIGHTS (STOCK) - NIGHT TO MORNING] [EXT. VARIOUS SAN FRANCISCO CITY LIGHTS (STOCK) - MORNING TO DAY] [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR - FRONT WALK - DAY] (Leslie St. Claire starts up the front steps. He looks at the house and sighs.) (He's at the door and almost presses the doorbell, his finger hovering over the button.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Oh, forget this. (He turns and starts back to his car. Halfway down the front steps, he looks up and sees Phoebe walking toward him.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Y-you didn't just see all that, did you? (She smiles.) PHOEBE: It's okay. It's probably what I looked like yesterday at the elevator. (He walks toward her.) LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Good. So we're even? PHOEBE: Even. (Phoebe sighs.) PHOEBE: So ... LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: So ... let me get this straight. Your sister owns a nightclub, but she also moonlights as a government agent? PHOEBE: Yeah. Kinda weird, huh? LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: And ... how often does she do that? PHOEBE: Oh, not -- not often at all. I mean, that was just a one-time thing, very unique situation. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: Well, at least that explains why that Fed was looking for you and why you weren't broken up when I came to see you. PHOEBE: Yeah, I wanted to tell you, but I -- LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: No, look, I--I understand. PHOEBE: And I really appreciate you coming by to see if I was okay. That was sweet. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: I care about you, Phoebe. A lot. PHOEBE: I like you, too. I, uh, I just don't know where we go from here. LESLIE ST. CLAIRE: (sighs) Neither do I. Maybe we should ... just see where it takes us. PHOEBE: (smiles) I'd like that. (She hugs him.) DISSOLVE TO: [INT. MANOR - CONSERVATORY -- DAY] (Leo sets Chris down on the pillow in the center of the blanket where Wyatt is playing with his toys. He goes over to Piper who is sitting on the wicker loveseat watching.) LEO: Want anything? (Leo sits down next to Piper, his arm along the seat behind her. Piper looks at their children.) PIPER: No. Just this. (She settles into the crook of Leo's arm and they both take a moment to watch their children. Leo glances at Piper, then back at their children as we ...
