Plans go immediately wrong when Piper is accidentally sent to the plane with Leo. It's up to the sisters to find them and get them back. Meanwhile, Chris is slowly running out of time. ========================== CHARMED 6X16: THE COURTSHIP OF WYATT'S FATHER ========================== FADE IN: [EXT./INT. MANOR - FOYER / FRONT DOOR -- DAY] (The front door is open; party-going parents are leaving, balloons, babies and favors in their arms. Just inside the foyer, PIPER bids their remaining guests goodbye as LEO stands by her side with WYATT in his arms.) (She hands MOM2 a package of goodies.) PIPER: Here you go. Thanks for coming. (MOM1 and her husband head out the door.) MOM 1: Thanks for inviting us. It was a fun party. HUSBAND: Bye. Thanks. (They leave. MOM 2 and her husband, FRANK linger to talk with PIPER and LEO.) MOM 2: I still can't believe that Wyatt is one already. PIPER: Oh, I know. You can't? FRANK: Nice to finally meet you, Leo. LEO: Yeah. You, too. MOM 2: (to LEO) You know, Frank and some of the other dads get the kids together on Saturdays, if you interested. LEO: Uh ... yeah. Thanks. FRANK: Excellent. (The remaining guests leave.) FIRST WOMAN: Thank you. SECOND WOMAN: Bye. FRANK: I'll call you. LEO: Ok, great. (PIPER breathes a sigh of relief and goes to shut the front door.) PIPER: Whew! [INT. MANOR -- MAIN HALL - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (She shuts the door and turns to look at LEO.) PIPER: I'm exhausted. LEO: (baby talk to WYATT) Did you have fun? Hmm? Did you like it? PIPER: Yeah, he was a really good boy and only made mommy freeze the room once. LEO: He was excited. It's his birthday. PIPER: He was excited to see you. He misses you. LEO: I know. I miss him, too. (PIPER smiles.) (PAIGE walks into the room as LEO puts WYATT down on the floor. She picks up the champagne bottle and glass from the center main hall table and offers it to them.) PAIGE: Hey, you guys want any more champagne? Come on. We don't want it to go to waste. How 'bout it, dad? (PIPER and LEO move closer toward PAIGE.) LEO: Elders aren't allowed to drink. PAIGE: Oh, come on. When on earth, you should do as earthlings do. LEO: Sorry. PIPER: Not that I'm complaining or anything 'cause you guys did such great work, but, um, champagne? Chocolate-covered strawberries? Oysters? Aren't the kids a little young for the aphrodisiacs? PAIGE: (feigning surprise) They're aphrodisiacs? (light chuckle) Ha! Who knew? (She sighs and holds out the glass. Offering.) Bubbly? PIPER: Paige ... PAIGE: What? Oh, come on, there were milk and cookies here, too. You know, maybe if-if there were more kids living in this house, I would know what to get. Do you ever stop to think about that? Huh? (PAIGE turns to leave the room.) PAIGE: Excuse me. (PAIGE hurriedly exits the hallway walking past the dining room table long enough to grab the large bowl and dirty paper plates. She heads toward the kitchen leaving PIPER and LEO staring at each other in puzzlement.) PIPER: She's been weird since she changed her hair color. She'll probably change it back. [INT. MANOR -- KITCHEN - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (PAIGE enters the kitchen where PHOEBE'S making more strawberries.) PAIGE: Ok, forget about the strawberries. She's onto us. PHOEBE: What do you mean? She knows about Chris? (PAIGE puts the dirty dishes in the sink and turns to look at PHOEBE.) PAIGE: No, but she knows we're up to something. I can't believe how hard it is to get two people laid. (PHOEBE rolls her eyes with distaste.) PHOEBE: Paige, that is disgusting. PAIGE: Well, it's what we're trying to do, right? PHOEBE: No, we are trying to romance Piper and Leo together so they can conceive Chris, our nephew. PAIGE: And that's different how? PHOEBE: Well, because what you said is very Springer. What I said is very Oprah. PAIGE: Oh. Well, whatever show we're watching, we're running out of time. At least Chris is. We should probably tell him. PHOEBE: Yes. (shouts) Chris! (CHRIS orbs into the kitchen and looks at them.) CHRIS: Hey. So how's it goin'? PAIGE: Not so good. (He looks at PAIGE.) CHRIS: What do you mean? (to PHOEBE) What does she mean? PHOEBE: We're running out of ideas. CHRIS: Well, that's too bad because it has to happen today, or I don't happen. PHOEBE: Wait. Today? CHRIS: Yeah. I did the math, and if I'm not conceived by midnight tonight, that's it. I won't be born, which means I won't be coming back from the future to warn you about Wyatt turning evil. PHOEBE: Yeah, see that time travel thing? Ooh. CHRIS: What about making, like, a love potion, just, like, slipping it to them? PAIGE: We're not tricking your parents. CHRIS: Why not? I'm desperate. PHOEBE: Hey, look, I have an idea. Call me crazy, but why don't we just tell them the truth? PAIGE: Sure, let's give them a massive case of performance anxiety. PHOEBE: We're running out of options. CHRIS: And time. (There's a loud explosion coming from the next room. They turn to look in that direction.) [INT. MANOR -- DINING ROOM / MAIN HALL / FOYER - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (PIPER waves her hands and blows up part of the stairway railing in several places. Obviously she's trying to blow something up but keeps hitting the stairs instead. Her eyes follow a downward path until finally we see the Darklighter, DAMIEN holding his crossbow and falling down the stairs.) (LEO turns and sees WYATT sitting alone in front of the front doors. LEO rushes over to him.) LEO: Wyatt! (DAMIEN sees this and orbs out. He re-orbs back into the room next to WYATT. He raises his crossbow and points it directly at LEO. LEO stops moving at the sight of the crossbow and arrow.) [SLOW MOTION CAMERA] (DAMIEN fires.) (The arrow shoots straight for LEO. LEO orbs out and the arrow passes harmlessly through him.) (DAMIEN lowers his crossbow down.) (In the Dining Room, CHRIS steps out to see what's going on.) (The Darklighter's arrow zooms past PIPER who turns to see CHRIS standing directly in its path. PHOEBE steps out and pushes CHRIS out of the way.) (PAIGE holds out her hand and calls for the ... PAIGE: Arrow! (She pushes the arrow back toward DAMIEN. The arrow zooms back past PIPER and straight for DAMIEN where it lodges in his shoulder.) DAMIEN: Aah! [RESUME MOTION] (LEO orbs back into the room and picks WYATT up.) LEO: I got you. I got you. I got you. (DAMIEN turns and sees LEO with WYATT. He orbs out of the room, the arrow still lodged in his shoulder.) (PHOEBE and PAIGE sigh with relief. PIPER walks toward WYATT to reassure him.) PIPER: You're okay. You're okay. (From his position on the ground, CHRIS looks up at PHOEBE. He holds his upper arm where he hit the floor upon impact.) CHRIS: Thanks for saving my life. (beat) Hope it wasn't for nothing. (They all turn to look at PIPER, LEO and WYATT standing on the other side of the room.) FADE TO END OF TEASER ROLL TITLE CREDITS (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. VARIOUS SAN FRANCISCO CITY SCENES (STOCK) - DAY] [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - DAY] [INT. MANOR - FOYER / SITTING ROOM -- DAY] (PHOEBE uses an eye drop and suctions up some of the darklighter blood on the floor. She heads into the sitting room to join everyone else.) PAIGE: Is that enough to scry with? PHOEBE: Only one way to find out. PIPER: At least he waited till after the party to attack. That was nice of him. CHRIS: You know what I don't understand is, why would the Darklighter attack at all? PHOEBE: I mean, with all of us here at the same time, it's suicide. PIPER: All the more reason to find him and stop him before he tries again. (LEO glances down at WYATT sitting in his lap.) LEO: I don't think he was after a Whitelighter. I think he was after me. Or Wyatt. PAIGE: Well, then why don't you take Piper up there, and take Wyatt, too? PIPER: Yeah, I'll go with you. LEO: But you're not allowed. PIPER: (scoffs) All right, so then we'll go to the Magic School. You'll be safe there. You can't be hurt, right? PAIGE: That's great. One big happy family. (It's a plan.) PIPER: You change him, I'll pack him. (PIPER gets to her feet and heads out. LEO picks up WYATT and follows her.) LEO: Come on. (They watch them leave. CHRIS turns to the others.) CHRIS: Think now's a good time to tell 'em? PAIGE: No. The sooner we take care of the Darklighter, the sooner we make you. PHOEBE: I'm gonna start scrying. (PHOEBE rushes out of the room. PAIGE gets to her feet.) PAIGE: And I will go start the love potion. CHRIS: Wait, I thought you were against making a love potion. PAIGE: Not if it's gonna save one of my two favorite nephews. (PAIGE winks at him, then walks out of the room.) (CHRIS watches her leave for a moment, then turns to note the grandfather clock chiming. It's three o'clock.) CUT TO: [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - DAY] (Camera pauses a beat on the Halliwell Manor, then zooms down to the depths of the earth below into ... [INT. DARKLIGHTER'S CAVE] (Darklighters are busy forging more poisonous arrows. The DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT pulls out the poison arrow from DAMIEN'S shoulder. DAMIEN grunts in pain as the arrow comes out.) DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: Nice plan, my friend. DAMIEN: It worked, didn't it? DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: Not yet it hasn't. Not until the witches come after you. DAMIEN: They'll come. They always do. DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: But will The Elder? I mean, now that he knows you're after him, won't he think it's too dangerous? DAMIEN: Not this Elder. He's blinded by fatherhood, by his unwavering desire to protect his son. He can't be sure I'm not after the boy, too. He'll come. (He picks up an arrow and looks at its poisonous tip.) DAMIEN: But he won't be immune to the poison. (louder) I'll need a dozen more for later. DARKLIGHTER 2: They're being forged as we speak. DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: You're sure you're still all right to go through with this, Damien? DAMIEN: The deal was struck. I was chosen. Besides, he deserves to get what he paid for, doesn't he? Leo out of the way? (He breathes heavily.) Just make sure the coat's properly prepared. We only get one shot at this. (DAMIEN stands up and walks out of camera frame. The DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT turns to the other DARKLIGHTERS.) DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: All right, arm up. But remember, we're only supposed to distract the witches, not harm them. They're not the target this time. The Elder is. (The DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT turns and leaves. The other Darklighters go about their jobs.) CUT TO: [INT. MAGIC SCHOOL - GREAT HALL -- DAY] (Open on a bookcase. A thick volume magically flies up to the highest shelf and settles sideways on the books already stacked there. A second, thinner book magically flies up and is sorted onto the shelf.) (Cut to: SARA stands in front of the trolley of books. She waves her hand and another book flies up to shelf. She looks extremely bored and waves her hand again. Another book flies up only to be caught mid-air by ... (GIDEON holds the book in his hand.) GIDEON: These aren't just books, Sara. They're legacies ... handed down over the ages by other magical beings and worthy or your great care. (GIDEON turns around and places the book on the shelf. He turns back to SARA.) GIDEON: You understand? SARA: Yes, sir. GIDEON: Good. LEO: (o.s.) Gideon ... (GIDEON turns to greet LEO.) GIDEON: Leo. What a pleasant surprise. How are you, my boy? LEO: I've been better. A darklighter attacked. I think he's after me. (GIDEON and LEO step aside to speak privately.) GIDEON: Are you certain? LEO: I don't know. He may be trying to get me out of the way to get to Wyatt. I dropped Piper and Wyatt off at the nursery. I hope that's all right. GIDEON: Of course, absolutely. LEO: Well, I better get back to Phoebe and Paige, see if I can help. GIDEON: No, you shouldn't. You should go back up with the other Elders where you'll be safe. LEO: What about the Darklighter? GIDEON: It's not your responsibility. That's for the sisters to handle. It's what they do. LEO: All right. Well, I can't just sit around while someone is after my son. I'm a father now. GIDEON: (firmly) No, you're an Elder now, and it's time to start acting like one. (quietly) Don't you see? You don't just put yourself at risk by staying here on earth. You put all Elders at risk, too. If they get you, they get access to us all. LEO: I know, but .. GIDEON: (interrupts) You can't justify staying here any longer not with this, not anymore. It's time to fully accept your calling, one that necessarily transcends the sins of the flesh, family, even fatherhood. One that requires you to cut the ties that bind for everyone's sake. LEO: I can't. At least not until I know my son is safe. I'm sorry. (LEO orbs out.) (GIDEON walks out of camera frame.) CUT TO: [EXT. P-3 - DAY] [INT. P-3 - BACK ROOM -- DAY] (CHRIS sits behind the desk pouring over various astrological charts and maps. He uses the compass to try to calculate and re-calculate his conception date.) CLARENCE: (o.s.) What are you still doing here? (Startled, CHRIS surges to his feet and looks up toward the doorway to find CLARENCE the janitor standing there looking into the room.) CLARENCE: Thought you'd be out and about by now. (CHRIS shuffles and moves the papers on the desk to hide them from CLARENCE'S view.) CHRIS: Clarence, hey. I didn't hear you come up. CLARENCE: (motions to the trash can inside the room) Do you mind? CHRIS: Uh, please, go ahead. (CLARENCE steps into the room and proceeds to clear up the trash.) CLARENCE: (smiles) Beautiful day outside, isn't it? CHRIS: Is it? I haven't really noticed. I've been too busy ... rechecking something. CLARENCE: The whole world seems to be too busy nowadays. Nobody's got time to just ... enjoy the day anymore. CHRIS: Well, it doesn't get any better in the future either. (startled) I mean ... I'd imagine. CLARENCE: Future don't mean squat to me. I'm too old to worry about it. Shouldn't to you either. You too young. CHRIS: (chuckles) Well, unfortunately-- (He sits down and sighs.) CHRIS: I'm kind of obsessed with it. (CHRIS rubs his forehead tiredly with his hand.) CLARENCE: (concerned) You all right? CHRIS: Yeah. Yeah, I just -- I just probably need to eat. CLARENCE: What you need is to get out of this hole, get some sun. Live a little. CHRIS: Believe me, I'm trying. CLARENCE: (nods) Do that. (Finished, CLARENCE turns and leaves the room. CHRIS watches him go and sighs.) (Something is happening to him. He checks his hand, opening and closing his fist as he looks at it.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC -- DAY] (The potions pot explodes, a white, smokey cloud rises out of it.) PAIGE: Oh! (PHOEBE looks up from her position on the couch, crystal in her hand as she scrys for the Darklighter.) PHOEBE: I thought you were making a love potion. PAIGE: (shrugs) I am. PHOEBE: Then why did it blow up? PAIGE: Maybe I'm trying to hard. PHOEBE: Or maybe it just wasn't meant to be. PAIGE: Phoebe! PHOEBE: Come on, you weren't thinking the exact same thing? PAIGE: No. Ok, fine, but for, like, a second. The point is Chris is meant to be. PHOEBE: But not if he changed too much by coming here, you know, messed up his own time line. PAIGE: We're talking about his very existence. PHOEBE: Paige, I know, but there's only so much we can do, especially now with that darklighter out there. (sighs) I just think that we have to face the reality that Chris' destiny might have been just to come here and warn us about Wyatt, and that's all. (PAIGE doesn't say anything. There's a small noise off to the side and both girls turn to find CHRIS leaning against the doorway. Just how much he's heard, they don't know.) PAIGE: Hey. (CHRIS doesn't say anything.) PHOEBE: Oh, my god, Chris, I'm so sorry. (He's quieter.) CHRIS: No, that's ok. I've actually been wondering the same thing. PAIGE: (confused) You have? CHRIS: Yeah. (He straightens and steps into the attic. His entire demeanor is less aggressive than his normal self. He appears more thoughtful.) CHRIS: I have the strangest feeling, like ... I don't know. It's really hard to explain, but it feels like I'm--I'm floating? Like I'm not really here, you know? PHOEBE: That doesn't sound good. PAIGE: Well, you have to fight it. We still have time. CHRIS: Not much. [CUE SOUND: MAGICAL JINGLE] (PHOEBE starts at the sudden movement of the crystal on the map. The entire crystal is jingling and shaking.) PAIGE: I've never seen it do that before. PHOEBE: Maybe that means there's more than one? (PHOEBE and PAIGE share a startled look.) PHOEBE: I'll go get Piper. (PHOEBE jumps up and rushes out of the attic. CHRIS turns to follow her.) CHRIS: I'll go, too. (PAIGE stops him.) PAIGE: No, you stay here, ok? Finish the potion. When we come back, your parents will be in the mood. (CHRIS turns around and heads back into the attic as PAIGE walks out of the attic after PHOEBE.) CHRIS: Ok. CUT TO: [EXT. STREET/ ALLEY -- DAY] (The SUV drives up the street and comes to a stop on the curb near the alley. Everyone gets out of the car and looks around.) PIPER: You sure this is the place? PHOEBE: Yeah, down that alley. PAIGE: Thank god we didn't orb in. (They head for the alley.) LEO: Well, we couldn't. They would've known we were coming. PIPER: Well, maybe they know already. (PHOEBE turns around to look at PIPER for an explanation to her cryptic remark.) PHOEBE: What do you mean? PIPER: I mean, since when do Darklighters hang out in broad daylight like this? It could be a trap. (to LEO) Maybe you should stay here. LEO: No, I'm the bait, remember? Besides, if it is a trap, you might need me to help you orb back. PAIGE: Well, I got Phoebe. You get Piper out of here for Chris' -- (oops) -- for Wyatt's sake. (PHOEBE grabs the potions bottles from PAIGE and they head into the alley.) PHOEBE: Let's just do this. (PIPER turns to look at LEO for a beat before following.) [EXT. ALLEYWAY - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (They walk into the alley and look around.) PAIGE: I don't see anything. (High above from the rooftop, a Darklighter carrying a crossbow materializes. He aims.) (PIPER looks up and sees him. She waves her hands and blasts the Darklighter. A second Darklighter appears next to him.) PHOEBE: Uh ... you take Piper. (PAIGE takes PHOEBE'S hand and orbs her out of the alley and onto the rooftop where the second Darklighter lifts his crossbow to take aim.) (PAIGE and PHOEBE both throw their potion vials at the two Darklighters, vanquishing them.) (A fourth Darklighter appears behind PHOEBE. From their vantage point below, LEO sees him and calls out a warning.) LEO: Phoebe, watch out! (The Darklighter swings and hits PHOEBE across the face. She flips and falls over the side of the building onto the trash can below.) (PIPER gasps.) (PHOEBE falls to the ground.) (The darklighter orbs out from the rooftop. PAIGE rushes to the side to look down into the alley. PIPER and LEO rush forward to check on PHOEBE.) (DAMIEN orbs in behind them.) PAIGE: Behind you! (PIPER and LEO turn around.) (DAMIEN raises his crossbow and takes aim.) (PIPER blasts DAMIEN and DAMIEN explodes. The blast from the explosion is greater than the normal vanquish. The fire rolls outward engulfing both PIPER and LEO completely.) (The flames suck inward into itself, then vanish completely. When it clears, nothing remains.) PAIGE: Piper! (PAIGE orbs down to the alley below. PHOEBE, stunned by the fall, is just coming to. PAIGE rushes forward to check on her.) PAIGE: Phoebe. (PAIGE helps PHOEBE only to find her palm covered in blood.) PHOEBE: Whoa. PAIGE: Oh, my god, you're bleeding. PHOEBE: Yeah. Uh. Maybe we should get me to the hospital. (PAIGE helps PHOEBE to her feet.) PAIGE: Yeah. I got you. (Cut to: PAIGE and PHOEBE make their way out of the alley and back to their parked car on the busy street. PAIGE opens the car door and helps PHOEBE into the passenger seat. She shuts the door behind her and runs around the car to the driver's side.) (PAIGE slips into the car and takes off for the hospital, tires screeching, as fast as she can, swerving back into traffic and maneuvering around pedestrians and other cars alike.) FLASH TO: [EXT. DOPPEL ALLEY - DAY - GHOSTLY PLANE] (The roadway is eerily quiet and deserted, not a sound is heard other than the echoing whoosh of wind through the empty buildings and abandoned roadway.) (To differentiate this ghostly plane from the normal reality, this place will be called "DOPPEL" or THE "GHOSTLY PLANE". There is no life in this reality other than PIPER, LEO and DAMIEN. The only sound we hear is the eerie echo of the wind blowing. The light throughout this place is cold and steel gray. The only color we can make out is the different tinges of blue in PIPER and LEO'S clothing.) (The camera opens from a top view of the same street fronting the alleyway. Instead of the normal busy street, there's no life anywhere. PIPER walks into camera frame calling out for her sisters. The wind blowing is the only other sound we hear in this world.) PIPER: (shouting) Phoebe! Paige! (She takes several more steps out onto the deserted street. She looks around.) PIPER: Where's my car? What's going on? Where did everybody go? (PIPER turns around and sees the entire place empty. LEO hurries out toward PIPER.) LEO: That's a good question. PIPER: Well, they've got to be here somewhere. LEO: I think we should get out of here. PIPER: No, not without Phoebe. She's hurt. Didn't you see her fall? LEO: Yeah, but at least she's alive. PIPER: What is that supposed to mean? LEO: I don't know, but I think we need to get off the street while we figure this out. PIPER: The hospital. If Paige couldn't get to you, she'd take Phoebe to the hospital. Memorial's just down the street. (PIPER heads toward the hospital. LEO tries to stop her.) LEO: Look, Piper, you don't understand. We can't worry about them right now. We need to worry about us. (Behind LEO, PIPER sees DAMIEN walk out of the alley.) PIPER: (warning) Leo. DAMIEN: Piper. You're not supposed to be here. PIPER: Yeah? Well, you're not supposed to be here, either, at least not in one piece. (PIPER waves her hands ... and nothing happens. Her powers don't work on this plane. DAMIEN sees it too. LEO looks back from DAMIEN to PIPER. He grabs her wrist ... LEO: Come on. ... And tries to orb. Nothing happens. DAMIEN reaches for an arrow from his quiver.) PIPER: What's wrong with your powers? LEO: I don't know. Run. (LEO and PIPER take off. DAMIEN takes his time and sets the arrow in the crossbow.) LEO: Come on! Go, go, go! (Once that's done, he sets off after them. LEO and PIPER run down the empty street - the only two moving targets in an empty field.) DAMIEN: (shouts) You can run, but you can't hide. You're in MY world now. (DAMIEN calmly walks after them.) FADE OUT (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [INT. DARKLIGHTER'S CAVE] (The DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT slams the Darklighter's back up against the wall.) DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: (angry) What part of "don't hurt the witches" didn't you understand? DARKLIGHTER: What was I supposed to do? They'd already killed three of us. DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: So what?! You're expendable! We all are for this. It's bad enough one's wounded now, but none of them were supposed to end up there. None of them! We were only meant to separate The Elder from his protectors, to make the witches fear he died so they wouldn't try to look for him. DARKLIGHTER: Still, just because she's with him doesn't mean she can protect him. No one has powers in the ghostly plane. That's why Damien wanted him sent there. DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: But that's not the point, now is it? Damien may be forced to kill her now, too, and that was specifically not what he was hired to do. Worse, the other witches may be less inclined to accept the death of a sister than of a brother-in-law, especially with their history. DARKLIGHTER: All the more reason for us to keep them distracted ... at all costs now. (The DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT gives the Darklighter one last look before turning and walking away.) CUT TO: [EXT. MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - DAY] [INT. MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - EMERGENCY ROOM -- DAY] (The ER DOCTOR looks over PHOEBE'S x-rays up against the view box.) ER DOCTOR: No broken bones, no internal bleeding. Other than a mild concussion, I'd say you're a very lucky woman. PHOEBE: (claps her hands) Great! Does that mean I can go home now? (PHOEBE jumps down off the examining table.) ER DOCTOR: Actually, I think I'd like to keep you here over night just for observation. PHOEBE: Oh, no. That's not possible. ER DOCTOR: Miss Halliwell, I don't have to remind you. You took quite a fall. It's possible you might have more than just a concussion, and sometimes other symptoms don't develop for 24 hours. (In the background, we hear an approaching siren from outside.) PHOEBE: Yeah, well, I don't have 24 hours. I gotta go. Gotta go. ER DOCTOR: You'll have to sign a release. (He hands her the form.) PHOEBE: That's fine. ER DOCTOR: If you feel any dizziness or light-headedness, call me. Otherwise, I'll see you in a week to remove the stitches. (PHOEBE signs the form and hands the chart back to the ER DOCTOR.) PHOEBE: Thanks. (The ER DOCTOR takes the chart and leaves. PHOEBE sits back on the table to get dressed.) [HALLWAY -- CONTINUOUS] (In the hallway, PAIGE paces the floor. Just outside the emergency room doors, an ambulance is parked while various injured people are being wheeled in on gurneys.) (The ER DOCTOR walks out of the room, sees the injuries, hands the chart to the nurse nearby and rushes forward to assist.) (PAIGE sees the ER DOCTOR come out of the room and heads into the room to check on PHOEBE.) [EMERGENCY ROOM - CONTINUOUS] (PHOEBE is putting her jacket on when PAIGE walks into the room.) PAIGE: Hey. What'd he say? Are you all right? PHOEBE: (lightly) Yeah. Well, he's releasing me, isn't he? (PHOEBE looks up at PAIGE and sees her worried look.) PHOEBE: Ok, don't worry about this, Paige. We're gonna figure something out. PAIGE: Ok, but what about Chris? PHOEBE: What about Chris? PAIGE: Well, what if he doesn't exist anymore because his mom and dad don't exist anymore? PHOEBE: No, if Piper were gone, I would sense it, I know it. (PHOEBE and PAIGE head out of the room.) [HALLWAY -- CONTINUOUS] (They step out into the chaos in the hallway.) PHOEBE: Oh, my god. What happened? PAIGE: (sighs) Truck hit a bus. (The Emergency Room hallway is extremely busy with emergency personnel and injured people.) FLASH TO: [INT. DOPPEL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - DAY - GHOSTLY PLANE] (The Emergency Room hallway is empty. PIPER walks in through the open emergency room double doors.) PIPER: Phoebe? Paige? (LEO runs in after her, looking over his shoulder as he catches up with PIPER.) LEO: They're not here, I'm telling you. PIPER: They have to be here. Phoebe's hurt. LEO: Not in this plane, she's not. The blast--when you blew up the Darklighter, it must have knocked us into this other place, one that coexists with our world, but not with our lives. PIPER: What are you talking about? What world? LEO: I don't know. I don't think we're here by accident. I think this is part of the Darklighter's plan, to have us here without our powers and without your sisters. (But PIPER'S not listening. She steps forward and yells for ... PIPER: Phoebe? FLASH TO: [INT. MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - HALLWAY -- DAY] (PHOEBE and PAIGE make their way through the packed hallway.) PHOEBE: Excuse us! PAIGE: Coming through! PIPER: (echo-y) (o.s.) Phoebe? (PHOEBE stops and turns around.) PHOEBE: What? Do you hear something? PAIGE: Hear what? PHOEBE: I could've sworn I heard someone call out my name. (As they listen, the sounds of the ER DOCTOR working on the BUS DRIVER on the gurney get louder, the voices becoming more pronounced and clear.) ER DOCTOR: We're losing him. ER DOCTOR: 250 C.C.S of lidocaine. He's flatlining. (The nurse gets the syringe.) ER DOCTOR: Come on, come on, come on. ER DOCTOR: Anybody call the driver's family? (The nurse pushes the syringe into the IV.) ER DOCTOR: Still got no pulse. NURSE: Paddles. (As they watch, the nurse hands the doctor the paddles.) ER DOCTOR: 200 joules. NURSE: Charging! ER DOCTOR: Clear! (The BUS DRIVER continues to flatline.) FLASH TO: [INT. DOPPEL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - DAY - GHOSTLY PLANE] (PIPER walks around the empty emergency room hallway looking around. LEO catches up with PIPER.) LEO: Piper, we gotta keep moving. We can't stay here. Damn it, Piper! (He turns her around to face him.) I don't want you to get hurt, too. PIPER: Ok. (They turn around to leave and see the BUS DRIVER appear, standing in the middle of the hallway. They stare at each other. The BUS DRIVER looks around.) BUS DRIVER: Am I dead? PIPER: Leo, what's going on? BUS DRIVER: Leo? Are you an angel? (As they watch, the BUS DRIVER vanishes. LEO stares at the spot where the BUS DRIVER stood. He's thinking and putting it together.) LEO: I know what plane we're on. The ghostly plane. (PIPER looks away from LEO and around at their surroundings.) FLASH TO: [INT. MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - HALLWAY -- DAY] (The monitor shows a heart beat.) ER DOCTOR: He's back. (The nurse moves the oxygen mask away from the BUS DRIVER. The ER DOCTOR snaps his fingers in front of him.) ER DOCTOR: Sir! Do you know where you are? ER DOCTOR: Do you know your name? (PHOEBE'S seen enough.) PHOEBE: (to PAIGE) Let's go. (PHOEBE turns to leave.) BUS DRIVER: (murmuring) Leo ... (They stop when they hear the BUS DRIVER.) BUS DRIVER: Leo... you must be an angel. PAIGE: Leo? (PHOEBE gasps and grabs her shoulder in pain.) PHOEBE: Ohh! PAIGE: What? What's wrong? PHOEBE: (thinking) Piper. FLASH TO: [INT. DOPPEL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL - DAY - GHOSTLY PLANE] (PIPER is pinned up against the wall with an arrow caught in her right shoulder. She's temporarily stunned and slowly slides down to the floor.) (In the back of the hallway, LEO is locked in a one-on-one hand-to-hand fight with DAMIEN. DAMIEN punches LEO in the face. LEO turns back and punches DAMIEN several times, finally grabbing him and slamming his head against the wall.) (DAMIEN slides down the wall, then scrambles for his weapons.) (LEO is already reaching for PIPER, gently helping her to her feet.) LEO: Come on. (As DAMIEN grabs his quiver and arrows, LEO and PIPER make their exit. DAMIEN grabs his crossbow, gets to his feet and turns to follow them.) WHITE FLASH TO: [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - NIGHT] [INT. MANOR - FOYER / MAIN HALL -- DAY] (PAIGE and PHOEBE orb into the Dining Room.) PHOEBE: I'm telling you, I felt Piper, as if she were standing right next to me. PAIGE: But she wasn't. PHOEBE: I know. I'm still trying to figure that part out. CHRIS: (o.s.) Uh, Phoebe. Paige. (They turn to see CHRIS walking tiredly down the stairs toward them.) PAIGE: Chris, you're ok. Which means Piper and Leo are ok. CHRIS: Well, I don't know about them, but I'm, uh ... I'm definitely running out of time here. (He pulls out his left hand from his pocket and shows them his transparent arm, slowly disappearing from existence with each passing moment. PAIGE and PHOEBE'S eyes widen at the sight.) (Camera holds on CHRIS.) FADE OUT (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - NIGHT] [INT. MANOR - ATTIC -- DAY] (PHOEBE slams the Book of Shadows closed and puts her forehead down on it in frustration.) PHOEBE: Ohh! PAIGE: What? (PHOEBE looks at PAIGE.) PHOEBE: I don't know what else to try. PAIGE: What do you mean? PHOEBE: What do you mean, what do I mean? There's nothing else to try. PAIGE: Oh, great. Why don't you try telling that to Chris as he fades away? PHOEBE: No, I can't. PAIGE: Great. Well, here's the deal. You felt Piper. So that means she's gotta be out there somewhere, and if we can figure out where, then maybe we can figure out how to bring them back. You said we weren't gonna lose her. PHOEBE: (thinking) The bus driver. PAIGE: The bus driver what? PHOEBE: Well, he was dead -- I mean, at least for a little bit, so maybe that wasn't a coincidence. Maybe he actually did see Leo -- in limbo. PAIGE: That's good. (PHOEBE nods.) PAIGE: No, that's bad because that would make them dead. PHOEBE: Not if someone put them there, like the Darklighter. PAIGE: The one that Piper vanquished? PHOEBE: Unless it wasn't really a vanquish -- it was just made to look like a vanquish. (With that in mind, PHOEBE opens the Book of Shadows again, this time with something specific to look for. She riffles through the pages.) PHOEBE: Ok, ghosts. Ghosts, ghosts ... ghosts .... CUT TO: [EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE (STOCK) - NIGHT] FLASH TO: [EXT. DOPPEL GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - GHOSTLY PLANE - NIGHT] FADE TO: [INT. DOPPEL P -3 -- NIGHT - GHOSTLY PLANE] (PIPER and LEO hide out in P-3 as LEO takes care of PIPER'S wound.) PIPER: Ow! LEO: Sorry. Good thing you're immune to poison. PIPER: Yeah. Too bad you're not. (LEO rips off a strip of his shirt to use as a make-shift bandage for PIPER'S wound.) PIPER: Oh! My, my. (He looks at her and smiles.) LEO: Impressed? (She stifles a smile.) PIPER: Very. (He gently wraps the cloth around PIPER'S wound, their eyes meet every once in a while, both fully aware of the other ... their predicament and their proximity. He finishes wrapping her wound.) LEO: That should ... stop the bleeding. PIPER: Thanks. Uh ... (looking around) ... you know, I rather imagined meadows, waterfalls, maybe even a harp. (She looks at LEO and raises her eyebrows at him. He looks around the place.) LEO: Well, this isn't the afterlife. It's a ... place before that to ease the transition. PIPER: Mm-hmm. And lucky us, we're stuck here. That is, until our friendly Darklighter helps us move on permanently. LEO: Well, we're not going to let that happen. We've been through a lot more than this. PIPER: Have we? LEO: Are you kidding? Ever since we met, it's been one ordeal after the other. PIPER: Wow. You make it sound so romantic. LEO: (laughs) That's not what I meant. (explains) I mean, look at ... everything we've been through. Everything we've overcome. This is just one more thing. This isn't where it ends. I promise. PIPER: All right. So how do we get out of here? LEO: I don't know. I gotta figure the darklighter has a way, maybe a portal. PIPER: Masked by the explosion? LEO: Maybe. Although somebody's gotta be helping him with a hell of a lot more powers than a darklighter. PIPER: Do you think the portal's still there? LEO: Probably. The question is, how do we access it without our powers? PIPER: We make Phoebe and Paige use theirs. I'm serious. We're on the ghostly plane, so why can't we, you know, haunt them, make contact like other normal ghosts do? LEO: Because not ... all other ghosts do. I-it ... it takes years to learn how to cross over. Besides, you need a connection. PIPER: A bond? You mean, like sisters? Come on, I--I know them. I know they're looking for us, and I know they were at the hospital. I felt them. I can't explain exactly-- LEO: (interrupts) You don't have to. Far be it from me to question the Power of Three after all these years ... PIPER: Ok, so let's go. They'll be at the house, at the Book of Shadows. LEO: That's probably where the Darklighter will be waiting for us. He knows us. He's studied us. (They look at each other knowing that they've got to do it anyway.) CUT TO: [EXT. ROOFTOP ACROSS THE STREET FROM MANOR - GHOSTLY PLANE] (Camera slowly rises to the very top of the roof of the house across the street from the manor. Hanging on to the weather vane is DAMIEN, his crossbow in his other hand. He balances himself on the rooftop and lets go of the weather vane to load the crossbow, his eyes on the house across the street.) FLASH TO: [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - NIGHT] [INT. MANOR - LIVING ROOM -- DAY] (CHRIS walks through the walls. He's fully transparent now. He realizes what he's just done and shudders at the thought. He looks at his transparent hands.) CHRIS: (to himself) Ohh, not good. (Off screen, he hears a familiar, friendly voice.) CLARENCE: It's almost time, Chris. (CHRIS turns around to find CLARENCE, the janitor, standing in the living room. CHRIS steps behind the wall, trying to hide from CLARENCE.) CHRIS: Clarence. What are you doing here? CLARENCE: Actually I've ... come for you. It's ok, son. I know. (CHRIS steps out to face CLARENCE.) CHRIS: Who are you? CLARENCE: Someone who was sent to make this ... easier for you. CHRIS: "This"? What do you mean, "this"? CLARENCE: I think you know. CHRIS: (realizing) You're an Angel of Death. CLARENCE: Yours is a unique situation, Chris ... one which requires special handling. That's why I wanted to meet you early, so you could get to know me, trust me. There's really nothing to be afraid of. (CLARENCE extends his hand out to CHRIS.) CHRIS: Yeah. That's easy for you to say. CLARENCE: Don't fight it, Chris. It'll only make it more difficult for you. CHRIS: No. Forget that. (CHRIS walks past CLARENCE and heads for the stairs.) CHRIS: All right? I still got time. You stay away from me. (CHRIS rushes up the stairs as CLARENCE watches.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - NIGHT] (PHOEBE lights the candles on the floor.) PAIGE: You sure a séance is the right move? PHOEBE: Well, if they are stuck in the spirit realm, then they're ghosts, right? PAIGE: Hopefully. PHOEBE: What, now you're a pessimist? PAIGE: Hey, a girl's allowed to vacillate. It's not like this is an exact science, right? Ok. The spell is done. (PAIGE holds up the slip of paper and moves to stand next to PHOEBE.) PHOEBE: Ok, let's do this. (CHRIS walks into the attic.) CHRIS: Sorry, I don't mean to be pushy, but ... (They both look up and see CHRIS completely transparent.) PHOEBE: Yeah, we're working on it. We're working on it. PAIGE: You don't look so good. (CHRIS sighs. He really has no choice but to wait for them to finish what they're doing.) PAIGE: Ok. PAIGE: (reading) "Sister spirit, we call to thee, cross on over so we may see." (As they wait for something to happen, CHRIS disappears from in front of them.) PHOEBE: Wait, that wasn't supposed to happen, was it? PAIGE: I'm thinking no. WHITE FLASH TO: [EXT. ROOFTOP ACROSS THE STREET FROM MANOR - GHOSTLY PLANE] (DAMIEN waits patiently.) [INT. DOPPEL MANOR - ATTIC -- NIGHT - GHOSTLY PLANE] (LEO and PIPER walk into the attic.) LEO: Ok, now what? PIPER: I don't know. I guess we try to make contact. (They stop in the middle of the room. PIPER closes her eyes and concentrates. LEO looks around and waits for something to happen.) (CHRIS appears in front of them. LEO sees him.) LEO: Chris? (PIPER opens her eyes and sees CHRIS too. He's looking around the attic noting where he is, knowing why he's there.) PIPER: Not exactly who I was going for, but I guess it'll work. LEO: (to CHRIS) What are you doing here? (His eyes rise from looking down at himself, to looking at them.) CHRIS: Ceasing to exist, I think. (CHRIS disappears.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC -- NIGHT] (CHRIS appears.) PHOEBE: What happened? Where'd you go? CHRIS: I just saw Piper and Leo. (PHOEBE motions for him to continue.) CUT TO: [INT. DOPPEL MANOR - ATTIC -- NIGHT - GHOSTLY PLANE] (PIPER turns to look at LEO.) PIPER: Where'd he go? LEO: I don't know. (CHRIS appears.) LEO: Ask him. (PIPER turns around to look at CHRIS.) PIPER: What are you talking about? What do you mean, 'ceasing to exist'? CHRIS: (all business) No time to explain. I'm a connection to your sisters, and they want to know how to get you guys back. CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC -- NIGHT] (CHRIS appears.) CHRIS: They think somebody made a portal for the Darklighter to pass through. PHOEBE: Somebody who? (Before he can answer, CHRIS sees something behind them. We hear DARKLIGHTERS orb into the attic. He shouts out a warning to them.) CHRIS: Darklighters! PHOEBE: What-- (They turn around to find two Darklighters in the attic.) CUT TO: [INT. DOPPEL MANOR -- ATTIC - NIGHT - GHOSTLY PLANE] (PIPER looks around.) PIPER: Chris, where are you? LEO: Shh. Not so loud. (LEO turns around to cautiously check out the attic.) [CROSSHAIRS VIEW: OF LEO] (DAMIEN adjusts his aim ... and waits for the right moment.) [CROSSHAIRS VIEW: OF LEO] (LEO walks up to the window, looking around. He turns and looks back at PIPER.) (Cut to: CLOSE UP: The tip of the arrow primed. Camera refocuses DAMIEN as he aims.) (DAMIEN fires.) [INT. DOPPEL MANOR -- ATTIC - NIGHT - GHOSTLY PLANE] (In an instant, the arrow breaks through the attic glass and hits LEO in the shoulder going clear through him and landing on the floor behind him.) (PIPER sees the arrow. She turns and sees LEO fall to his knees clutching his wounded shoulder.) PIPER: Leo? (PIPER helps LEO to his feet.) PIPER: Come on. Come on! (She pulls him out of the attic.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR -- ATTIC - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS] (PHOEBE and PAIGE stand up from their positions behind the couch and throw their potion vials at the two Darklighters. It finds their marks and the Darklighters vanquish in a wall of fire and smoke.) (They step out from behind the couch.) PHOEBE: Piper's not here anymore. I can't sense her. CHRIS: (o.s.) It's too late. (They turn and can barely see CHRIS anymore.) CHRIS: (echoy) And not just for Piper and Leo. Take care. (And with that, CHRIS vanishes completely.) PAIGE: Chris? FLASH TO: [EXT. DOPPEL ALLEYWAY - NIGHT - GHOSTLY PLANE] (PIPER and LEO walk down the dark street, PIPER hanging onto LEO'S arm. They're slowly making their way back to the alley.) LEO: If there is a portal, it's gotta be nearby. (She stops him.) PIPER: Leo, what are you doing? LEO: Trying to save you. PIPER: "You" -- you mean you're trying to save us, don't you? (LEO looks at PIPER. It's there in his face.) PIPER: You need to sit down. (She leads him over to the bench along the wall. He winces at the pain in his shoulder. She looks at the wound.) PIPER: Maybe since the arrow went straight through ... LEO: It'll just take longer. (PIPER sighs heavily.) LEO: They'll find a way. PIPER: How? We never even had a chance to tell them where to meet us. LEO: They'll figure it out. I know them. PIPER: (doubtfully) In time? LEO: Look, Piper, no matter what happens - PIPER: No. LEO: ... you have to keep trying to make contact. (She closes her eyes, trying to block out what he's saying.) PIPER: I don't want to hear it. LEO: He's not after you. He's after me. PIPER: Would you please stop trying to save me. (LEO watches as PIPER sighs and turns away. He looks down.) LEO: (softly) I'm sorry I got you into this. (She turns to look at LEO.) PIPER: (lightly) Yeah, just one ordeal after another, right? (As they look at each other, the humor falls flat. She tries to smile, but tears well up in her eyes. He watches as her face breaks and she silently starts to cry. He reaches over to cup her cheek with his palm against the side of her face. She leans into his caress. He whispers so softly, we can barely hear the words, though their impact is no less true.) LEO: I never stopped loving you. (Unable to bear it any longer, PIPER reaches for LEO and pulls him toward her. They kiss. They kiss as if it's their last moments together, as if they're the only two people in the world.) FADE OUT (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [INT. MAGIC SCHOOL - GREAT HALL -- DAY] (GIDEON walks into the great Hall to find PAIGE and PHOEBE there waiting for him.) GIDEON: Phoebe. Paige. PAIGE: Gideon, we need your help. GIDEON: What's wrong? PHOEBE: Well, we think we may have lost Chris. GIDEON: What? PAIGE: And Piper and Leo ... and us, too, if we're not careful. PHOEBE: Somebody's got a bunch of Darklighters after us, and one of them's got Piper and Leo trapped PAIGE: In the Ghostly Plane. PHOEBE: (adds) Or the Spirit Realm. GIDEON: (quietly) It's the same thing. PHOEBE: Right. We made contact with them, but then we lost them. PAIGE: And we lost Chris, too, although we're not sure why, because she can tell if Piper's Dead. PHOEBE: Yeah, and I can't. PAIGE: So, she must still be around somewhere, we just don't know where. PHOEBE: So we need to figure out how to use the Darklighters' portal to get them out. PAIGE: And if you follow all that, you're really a very powerful Elder. GIDEON: But Darklighters don't have the power to make portals, let alone use them. PHOEBE: Right. We have to figure out who can. GIDEON: I warned Leo. I told him something like this might happen. What do you need? PAIGE: Well, we know where to find the portal. We just don't know how to reverse it. (GIDEON walks over to the counter and takes a large book out of the pile. He opens it and shows it to PAIGE and PHOEBE.) (The page in the book reads: EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT PORTALS BUT WERE AFRAID TO ASK.) GIDEON: There. PAIGE: Handy. WHITE FLASH TO: [EXT. DOPPEL ALLEYWAY - MORNING - GHOSTLY PLANE] (LEO stands in the mouth of the alley facing outward toward the light. He stands still and although we can't see him, we know his eyes are closed as he concentrates and meditates. PIPER sits slumped against the wall, her jacket around her as a blanket. She awakens suddenly.) PIPER: Leo? (She looks up to find LEO standing in front of her. He turns around and smiles at her.) LEO: Morning. PIPER: What are you doing? LEO: Just trying to sense them. (He turns around and heads back to PIPER.) PIPER: Any luck? (She gets a good look at LEO and gets worried.) PIPER: You don't look so good. (He glances at his wound and sighs.) LEO: I know. Listen, about last night. PIPER: I don't have any regrets if that's where this is going. LEO: It's not. But I'm glad you said that. Because I don't either. I just want you to know that I don't have any expectations. Because I know everything that you went through when I became an Elder, and it just ... it wouldn't be fair to put you through that again. PIPER: I'm not sure I understand. LEO: Neither one of us wanted me to become an Elder, but I did anyway. I was supposed to go up there right away, but I-I didn't. PIPER: (nods in understanding) Because you wanted to find out who Chris was ... and to protect Wyatt. LEO: Those aren't the only reasons I didn't go up there, Piper. I was holding on to you. And because of that, I've put you at risk, and I've put my son at risk. I can't let that happen anymore. I won't let that happen. DAMIEN: (o.s.) Well, fortunately, you won't have to worry about that for much longer. (They look up and see DAMIEN walk into the alley. LEO stands up to face him, placing himself between DAMIEN and PIPER.) DAMIEN: I'm a little surprised, actually. Didn't really think you'd come back here. Thought I knew you better than that. Oh, well. (He raises his crossbow. LEO puts out a hand as if to stop him.) LEO: Let her go. You don't want her. DAMIEN: No ... but I can't pass up my opportunity, can I? It's in my nature. Besides, I wouldn't want A Charmed One coming after me when this is over. (All around them, things start to shift and change. Busy sounds burst through the thick silence and various colored items in the alleyway appear as if by magic.) (LEO and PIPER look around as the sounds of traffic and sirens and people rushing by filter into their world.) (DAMIEN also notices the changes and he lowers the crossbow, confused by the alterations. Color filters in through their colorless world.) PAIGE: (o.s.) I wouldn't do that if I were you 'cause this time I'll vanquish you for real. (DAMIEN turns around and is surprised to see PAIGE and PHOEBE in the alleyway. They walk into the alley, their potion vials in their hands.) PIPER: Well, it's about time. (PHOEBE stops in front of DAMIEN. He's surrounded.) PHOEBE: Who sent you? (DAMIEN stands there stunned. From somewhere up above, a darklighter's arrow hits him in the chest. He staggers back at its impact. PIPER looks up to see the DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT peering down at them from the rooftop.) (DAMIEN looks up and sees him. He shouts in pain as he explodes.) (The DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT orbs out.) (CHRIS appears and solidifies in the alley. He raises his arms high above his head and gives a triumphant shout.) CHRIS: Yes! I'm back! (PIPER looks at him, confused.) PHOEBE: (confused, too) Wait. How is that possible? (LEO sighs, his strength giving out on him as he slowly collapses to the ground.) CHRIS: Don't ask me. Ask ... (LEO falls backward.) PIPER: Oh. Ho ho! CHRIS: (concerned) ... them. PIPER: Paige, come on, quick. We got to get him to Gideon. (PAIGE steps forward, grabs both PIPER and LEO and orbs them out of the alleyway.) DISSOLVE TO: [EXT. VARIOUS SAN FRANCISCO (STOCK) - DAY] [EXT. GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE - TOWER - DAY] (LEO stands high up on the tower, completely healed. GIDEON orbs in next to him.) GIDEON: I thought I'd find you here. How are you doing? LEO: The wound is healed, if that's what you mean. GIDEON: No, it's not. LEO: You were right. I know that now. I can't justify staying here any longer. GIDEON: Good. LEO: Still, it's not easy ... and not just as a father. GIDEON: I know. LEO: Do you? Does any Elder? Sometimes I wish you wouldn't have let us break the rules, you wouldn't have let us get married. GIDEON: No, you don't. Love ... and loss forms you, Leo. It's who you are and who you always will be. It's a life you'll treasure and an experience you will share, one that helps us better appreciate those that we are entrusted to watch over. LEO: It's not fair. GIDEON: Sacrifice never is. (He lets the words sink in.) It's time. (LEO looks around, then orbs out.) CUT TO: [EXT. P-3 (STOCK) - DAY] [INT. P-3 - BACK ROOM -- DAY] (CHRIS looks at himself in the mirror as he puts his shirt on.) CLARENCE: (o.s.) Lookin' good. (CHRIS turns around to find CLARENCE standing in the doorway watching him.) CHRIS: Whoa ... wait. What are you still doing here? CLARENCE: Don't worry. You're fine. I just wanted to say ... good luck. CHRIS: Thanks. (CLARENCE turns to leave; CHRIS stops him.) CHRIS: Hey ... just out of curiosity, why did you tell me all that stuff about ... living life and enjoying my day if you were coming for me all along? CLARENCE: Just in case I wasn't leaving with you. You've been given a second chance, Chris. Don't waste it. (CLARENCE turns and walks out. CHRIS watches him go and sees CHRIS disappear in the white flash of light. Camera holds on CHRIS.) CUT TO: [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR (STOCK) - DAY] [INT. MANOR - WYATT'S ROOM -- DAY] (PIPER lingers in the doorway watching WYATT sleeping in his crib -- her expression thoughtful. After a deep breath, she steps back and closes the door.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - PIPER'S BEDROOM -- DAY] (PIPER rounds the entry to her bedroom to find PHOEBE and PAIGE waiting for her.) PIPER: Hi. PHOEBE: Hi. PIPER: What's goin' on? PHOEBE: Maybe ... maybe you should sit down for a second. PIPER: Oh, that doesn't sound good. PHOEBE: No, no! No, it's good. It's good. I mean, you know, it's not bad. (PIPER sits down.) PHOEBE: It's a--it's a really good thing. It's not a bad thing. I think it's a really good thing. Don't you think? PAIGE: Yeah! I mean, it depends. PIPER: Uh-huh. That sounds worse. PAIGE: No, it's just, uh, just complicated. PIPER: Ok, so why don't you guys just tell me what's going on? (PHOEBE takes a deep breath.) PHOEBE: All right. (PAIGE nods to her in encouragement.) Uh, Paige and I know what happened between you and Leo last night. (They both look at PIPER with suppressed smiles on their faces. PIPER stares at them and chuckles slightly embarrassed.) PIPER: Wait. Excuse me? PAIGE: Not because anybody told us or anything. It's just ... because of Chris. PIPER: Chris? Why--why would Chris know what happened last night? PHOEBE: Well, because he wouldn't be here if it didn't. (gently) Yeah, see, we've known for a while. We just didn't know how to talk to you and Leo about it. PIPER: (shakes her head) Talk to us about what? (PHOEBE sighs and rolls her eyes at PAIGE.) PAIGE: Is it my turn? PHOEBE: Yeah. PAIGE: Yeah. Uh ... Chris is your son. (PIPER'S eyes widen.) PHOEBE: Wyatt's brother. (hastily) Look, I know this is huge. PIPER: (shakes her head) No, it's ... (gets to her feet) ... it's not huge because it's not possible. It's crazy 'cause I'm not pregnant. (PHOEBE glances at PIPER'S tummy, then back up to her face. Smiles are plastered on PHOEBE and PAIGE'S faces.) PHOEBE: Oh ... PAIGE: Yeah. PHOEBE: Yes-yes. PIPER: (chuckles and denies loudly) No, I'm not. I mean, how could that happen? I mean, I know how that could happen, but it ... (She stops and suddenly accepts the possibility.) Oh, what am I gonna do? PHOEBE: Maybe you should talk to Leo about it. (PAIGE nods.) PIPER: No, I can't. PHOEBE: Why? PIPER: Well, because, because. Because I can't. (PHOEBE and PAIGE look at each other more confused than ever.) (There's a light knock on the door and CHRIS appears in the doorway.) CHRIS: This a bad time? (PIPER turns around and stares wide-eyed at CHRIS. Suddenly faced with the truth that this is her son. CHRIS swallows nervously as PIPER stares at him with new eyes.) CUT TO: [INT. DARKLIGHTER'S CAVE] (The DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT scoffs.) DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: I'm still not quite sure what this was all about, why so many of my kind had to die. Why my friend had to die. GIDEON: (o.s.) All in good time. DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: We still didn't even accomplish what you wanted. We didn't get The Elder. (He turns to look at GIDEON standing in the shadows.) GIDEON: Ah, but in a way, you did. (GIDEON steps out into the light.) GIDEON: Leo's gone, isn't he? Perhaps not in the way I'd originally intended, but gone nonetheless. DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: But wasn't he your friend, too? GIDEON: Yes, he was. We all have to make sacrifices for the greater good. DARKLIGHTER LIEUTENANT: (scoffs) I'm evil. What do I care about the greater good? GIDEON: Leo's son is just as much a threat to your kind as he is to mine. We made a mistake in allowing Wyatt to be born, in allowing such a concentration of power to be brought into this world in one being. But now that Leo is gone and the charmed ones are unaware, I'm one step closer to being able to correct that mistake ... (beat) GIDEON: ... for good.
