Jason learns Phoebe's secret. ========================== CHARMED 6X13: USED KARMA ========================== FADE IN: [INT. MANOR - DINING ROOM -- NIGHT] (PHOEBE, JASON, PAIGE and RICHARD sit around the dining table after dinner. PAIGE tries to give PHOEBE her opening.) PAIGE: Ok. This has been really fun, guys. But Phoebe actually brought us here tonight to say something, didn't you, Phoebe? PHOEBE: No. No. I--I just think that we don't get to see enough of each other, that's all. JASON DEAN: Might be a little longer, too, seeing as we're off to Paris in the morning. (PHOEBE laughs. PAIGE tries again.) PAIGE: Yeah. About that French merger -- PHOEBE: Oh, Hong Kong, Rome, gay Pa-ree. It's enough to send a girl's head spinning, you know? PAIGE: But wasn't there something you really wanted to say about ... (PHOEBE gears up to say what she has to say, when RICHARD interrupts.) RICHARD: Uh, you must have great business karma. JASON DEAN: Oh, karma? I don't believe in that stuff. RICHARD: Not at all? JASON DEAN: Well, I mean, you know, somebody cuts me off on the road, uh, I'd like to think they're gonna get what's coming to them, if that's what you mean. RICHARD: That's karma. The great cosmic justice system. You reap what you sow. PAIGE: (interrupst) Great. Fabulous. Anyway, Phoebe -- (PAIGE kicks PHOEBE under the table.) PHOEBE: Ow! Uh, ok. All right. Uh ... Jason, there is something that I want to share ... with you right now. And, uh, that ... would be ... a toast. (She picks up her glass.) PHOEBE: A toast to your merger. (They toast and PHOEBE empties her drink.) PAIGE: Phoebes, would you help me? With the cobbler? (PHOEBE puts her glass down and picks up the dinner plates. She and PAIGE leave the table.) JASON DEAN: (to RICHARD) Uh, am I missing something? (RICHARD doesn't say anything.) [INT. MANOR -- KITCHEN - NIGHT -- CONTINUOUS] (PAIGE and PHOEBE walk into the kitchen. PAIGE puts the glasses down and picks up the coffee pot.) PAIGE: Ok, that was a three-course meal, not including the fruit and cheese plate. I gave you a million openings. What do you want, a drum roll? PHOEBE: Actually, that's not a bad idea. PAIGE: You are going with him to France tomorrow. You've been putting this off for too long. You have to tell him you're a witch. PHOEBE: I'm just thinking, maybe we should wait until we get there to tell him, you know? And then, if there's an emergency, you can orb us back, ok? PAIGE: You've probably been caught almost, like, a million times. You can't keep taking that risk. PHOEBE: I know. (PHOEBE picks up the dessert and turns to walk out. She turns back to PAIGE.) PHOEBE: You know, maybe I should wait till tomorrow, until after the big banquet so I don't upset his big day. PAIGE: (shakes her head) I think that you have a big problem with avoiding conflict and one day, missy, it is gonna come back and bite you in the ass. (RICHARD walks into the kitchen.) RICHARD: Hey, he's getting a little antsy in there. PAIGE: And you? What is it with this whole karma thing? You're supposed to be making it easier for her. (LEO orbs into the kitchen behind RICHARD and PHOEBE.) LEO: Piper's under attack. She needs your help fast. PHOEBE: Saved by the orb. Great. (PHOEBE hands the cobbler to LEO.) Keep Jason occupied. (PAIGE hands the coffee pot to LEO. They orb out of the kitchen.) [DINING ROOM -- CONTINUOUS] (Thinking nothing of it, LEO walks into the dining room carrying the cobbler and coffee pot. JASON is surprised to see him.) JASON DEAN: Leo? What are you doing here? LEO: (casually) Uh, just bringing dessert. You want some? (LEO heads toward the table. RICHARD points back at the kitchen.) RICHARD: The girls are just tidying up. CUT TO: [INT. CATACOMBS - NIGHT -- CONTINUOUS] (In the catacombs, a SWARM DEMON explodes. Another SWARM DEMON appears.) PIPER: Crap. (The SWARM DEMON powers up a fireball and hurls it toward PIPER. She dives and the fireball hits the wall behind her.) PIPER: Unh! (PHOEBE and PAIGE rush toward her to help her up.) PIPER: About time! (The SWARM DEMON heads for them. PIPER raises her hand and the DEMON explodes.) PHOEBE: It wasn't easy to find you in these catacombs. (The girls run for cover behind the nearest wall.) PAIGE: You were supposed to wait till after dinner so I could help. PIPER: Well, I thought I could handle it. Except I must have missed something in the book. PHOEBE: (flatly) I guess so. PIPER: Look, every time I hit one, two more show up. (PIPER hears a sound and peers around the wall to look. Two more SWARM DEMONS appear. She blasts them and misses as they duck. The DEMONS power up a fireball each and throw it at PIPER; she steps to the side and it flies past her.) (PHOEBE motions for PIPER to move.) PHOEBE: Ok. Back up. (PHOEBE steps out from behind the wall.) PHOEBE: Hey, boys! (The two SWARM DEMONS hurl their fireballs at PHOEBE. She channels the fireballs back at the SWARM DEMONS and they explode upon impact.) (Satisfied, PHOEBE smiles, then turns around to look at PIPER and PAIGE. Four new SWARM DEMONS appear. The one standing in the center throws a fire ball.) (PAIGE grabs PHOEBE and they all run for cover behind the wall. The fireballs fly past them.) PIPER: Ok, new plan. Blast and then bail. PHOEBE: Ok. (The girls run out from behind the wall.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - KITCHEN - NIGHT -- CONTINUOUS] (JASON walks into the kitchen.) JASON DEAN: Hey, Phoebe, what's taking you so long? (LEO and RICHARD follow him in. JASON looks around and finds the kitchen empty.) JASON DEAN: What -- where'd they go? RICHARD: Uh, must be an emergency or something. (RICHARD and LEO look at each other.) JASON DEAN: It's always some emergency or some phone call or some marathon pee break. What's going on? (LEO shrugs and shakes his head probably trying to come up with an explanation.) (The girls orb into the middle of the kitchen.) (The first thing they see is JASON. They gasp.) (JASON'S eyes roll to the back of his head as he passes out. Everyone's eyes follow him straight down to the floor.) PIPER: Oops. HARD CUT TO END OF TEASER ROLL TITLE CREDITS (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. VARIOUS SAN FRANCISCO LIGHTS (STOCK) - NIGHT] [EXT. FRONT PORCH - NIGHT] (PHOEBE regretfully looks out the front door, the lights and screeching tires of the speeding car evidence that JASON has left the house.) (PHOEBE goes back into the house and closes the door behind her.) [INT. MANOR - FOYER/LIVING ROOM -- NIGHT] (PIPER is on the couch while LEO heals her wounded forehead. Over the baby monitor, we hear WYATT awake and coo-ing. PHOEBE walks into the room.) LEO: I think I better go check on Wyatt. (LEO gets up and leaves the room as PHOEBE climbs up onto the sofa next to PIPER) PHOEBE: I've never seen him like that. He looked at me like he had no idea who I was. PAIGE: He doesn't know you. Not the witch you, anyway. PIPER: He's just gonna need some time. PHOEBE: Why didn't I just tell him? (points to PAIGE) And no "I told you so's." PAIGE: We all make little mistakes, honey. PHOEBE: This was a very big mistake. I can't imagine how he's feeling right now, what he's going through. PAIGE: The good new is it's out in the open now, and, uh, you know, you guys have no more secrets. (RICHARD walks into the room.) RICHARD: Food's away, table's cleared. Is there anything else I can do? PAIGE: No. Thank you. (RICHARD looks at PHOEBE.) RICHARD: Hey, I feel awful. I'm sorry about what happened. PHOEBE: It's not your fault. RICHARD: Well, actually, it is. PIPER: Why, did you shove Jason into the kitchen? RICHARD: No, but my karma did. (PIPER'S brows furrow at her confusion.) RICHARD: I'm serious. I'm convinced I'm carrying around the burden of my family's karma. We did so much bad with magic, now magic's doing bad to me and those I care about. PAIGE: Now, that is completely ridiculous. RICHARD: The Feud has lasted for decades in my family, and so many people were hurt in the crossfire. I mean, somebody's gotta inherit that bad karma, right? PIPER: That's not really how karma works. PHOEBE: You live a double life with your boyfriend, and you pay the price. If anyone's karma made this happen, it's mine. PAIGE: That's true. You had the chance to clean this up tonight, and you didn't. PHOEBE: See? There's that "I told you so," huh? PAIGE: Only to make a point. PHOEBE: No, you're - you're right. I've been avoiding conflict my whole life. RICHARD: What, and it just happened the night I was here? I mean, that's all I'm saying. PIPER: Hey, you guys. This mea culpa game is real fun and all, but we're not gonna solve anything. Those multiplying swarm demons, on the other hand -- PAIGE: That's right, we riled 'em up, didn't we? PIPER: Yeah, and if they attack right now, we won't know how to deal with them, so why don't you two hit the Book, and I'll catch up after I check on Wyatt. (PIPER gets to her feet; everyone turns to leave the room - everyone, except PHOEBE.) PHOEBE: Uh, would you guys mind if I sat this one out? I kind of feel like I need to go see Jason. PIPER: Well, maybe after we-- PAIGE: (interrupts) No. We can handle it. (PAIGE waves to PHOEBE that they'll be fine without her.) PHOEBE: Okay. (PHOEBE gets up from the couch to go see JASON.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - WYATT'S ROOM -- NIGHT] (LEO puts WYATT down in his crib and automatically reaches for the red quilt hanging on the side to drape it over WYATT. Just then, PIPER walks into the room and sees what LEO'S doing.) PIPER: Leo. No. No. No. LEO: What? (LEO drops everything and holds his hands up and away waiting for PIPER to tell him what he's doing wrong.) LEO: What? What? What is it? PIPER: This. (PIPER grabs the quilt.) This. (She pulls the quilt out of the crib.) LEO: What, my grandmother's quilt? PIPER: Her red quilt. The color of anger and violence and all things bad. (PIPER folds the quilt.) LEO: Bad? I used that quilt. PIPER: Well, you can have it back. (PIPER tosses the quilt aside. She walks over to the other end of the room.) PIPER: Wyatt is now using the powder blue baby blanket. (She pulls out a blue blanket. On her way back to the crib, she stops. Something's missing.) PIPER: Did you turn off the Serenity Mozart CD? (Guilty.) (PIPER tosses the powder blue baby blanket at LEO and turns around to the dresser to turn Mozart back on.) PIPER: Look, we need to bathe Wyatt in goodness and nurture peace and serenity. Happy things. (LEO tucks the blanket around WYATT.) LEO: Piper, don't you think you're overreacting a little bit? PIPER: Leo, there is no such thing as overreacting when it comes to the future of our child. LEO: Ok, but aren't the swarm demons the last on the list of threats? PIPER: Yes, but - LEO: Ok, and when they're gone, are you gonna stop worrying a little bit? Right? PIPER: No, because I sent Chris to suss out if there's any new threats. (PIPER picks up the baby bag and puts it on the dresser.) LEO: Ok, not to press a point, but didn't you just have an epiphany about not focusing all your energy on Wyatt? PIPER: Yes. Well, that was before Chris informed us that our child was gonna grow up to be the future of all evil. And besides, it's not all I do. I have the club, I have friends. LEO: Well. PIPER: Look, it's just that Wyatt still comes first. Which is why you are gonna take him up to The Elders so he's safe while we figure out how to deal with the swarm demons. (PIPER finishes packing the baby bag and walks it over to LEO.) PIPER: And while you're there, can you ask them if there's anything they can do to ensure goodness in Wyatt? You know, pull a few strings? LEO: Piper, we don't need any strings pulled. We can protect our son ourselves. (LEO slings the bag over his shoulder.) PIPER: Well, in the future, apparently we don't. Ok, so, look, there are blue booties in the bag in case it gets cold, so don't be afraid to use them, ok? (PIPER picks up the red blanket and tosses it on the side on her way out. LEO clears his throat and looks down at his son.) (WYATT coos.) (LEO smiles and picks him up.) LEO: Don't look at me, she's your mother. (They orb out.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC -- NIGHT] (RICHARD paces the floor while PAIGE goes through the Book of Shadows.) RICHARD: Look, you and I both know in order to make this work, you can't repress yourself. PAIGE: I'm not. Look. (She spreads her hands over the Book of Shadows.) Practicing magic. RICHARD: Yeah, but you don't want me to -- PAIGE: Every relationship is gonna have its challenges, right? Look at Phoebe and Jason. RICHARD: I'm telling you, that was me. PAIGE: No, that was them not being truthful with each other, and as long as we are, we're gonna be fine. RICHARD: Fine would be if I could start over with a clean slate. PAIGE: You just be the wonderful person that you are, and it's gonna make up for all the bad things that your family ever did. RICHARD: Not in this lifetime. I wanna start over. PAIGE: It's not possible. If it were, everybody would do it. RICHARD: Look, everybody's not a powerful witch. PAIGE: Look, karma is the DNA of the universe. It's what balances everything out. You start screwing with that, you can mess up the entire cosmic order of things. (RICHARD looks at the potions table and walks toward it.) RICHARD: Maybe you can help me cast a spell. PAIGE: What part of "no shortcuts" are you not getting? There's an Aura Cleanse, a Chakra Cleanse, but no Karma Cleanse. If it were possible to be cleansed, it would be in there. But there's no spell. It can't be done. (PIPER walks into the attic.) PIPER: Got anything? (PAIGE walks back to the Book of Shadows.) PAIGE: Yeah. Let's see. They are distant relatives of Kazis and vampires, which means they come from a hive. (PIPER joins PAIGE in front of the Book of Shadows.) PAIGE: Did you even read this? PIPER: (busted) I 'skimmed' it. (RICHARD hangs around the potions table.) PIPER: So ... they were drones that we were killing. Well, no wonder they just kept coming back. It says you have to kill the king to kill the hive, which requires the Power of Three spell. (beat) I'll call Phoebe. (PIPER moves toward the door; PAIGE stops her.) PAIGE: Hey, just slow down there, ok? Take it easy. PIPER: Ok, you orb out and get Phoebe, and I'll start on the potion. PAIGE: Why don't we just track the leader down? You and I. That way, Phoebe and Jason can have a little bit of time alone, yeah? PIPER: Well, what if the swarm attacks before - (PAIGE levels her a look.) PIPER: Ok, fine. We'll locate the ruler first. PAIGE: Brilliant idea. (She looks at RICHARD.) PAIGE: Hey, can I orb you anywhere? RICHARD: No, it's ok. I drove my car here. (PAIGE puts her jacket on.) PAIGE: Ok. I'll see you soon. (RICHARD starts moving toward the attic door as if to leave; PAIGE and PIPER orb out of the attic. As soon as they're gone, RICHARD stops, turns and heads for the Book of Shadows.) (He starts leafing through the Book.) CUT TO: [EXT. BAY MIRROR BUILDING (STOCK) - NIGHT] [INT. BAY MIRROR - JASON'S OFFICE -- NIGHT] (JASON stands near the window lost in thought. It's obvious that he's troubled by what he's learned that night. He turns and sees PHOEBE standing in the doorway.) JASON DEAN: Stay away. (She walks into the office.) PHOEBE: We need to talk. JASON DEAN: No. No. I don't wanna talk, ok? You're--this is -- you're - (chuckles nervously) This, this is-is -- is so beyond-- this is so far beyond my reality, you know. I-I-I'm just still trying to figure out how-how could - (bursts out) Fifteen months, I didn't know. PHOEBE: I wanted to tell you. I really did, but I couldn't. And you know now, so can we talk about this, please? JASON DEAN: Oh, ok, fine. Let's talk. (He picks up an old newspaper with a familiar headline and walks around the desk to stand in front of her.) JASON DEAN: All right, what was this? Huh? The Godiva Girls. Was that magic? PHOEBE: Yeah. JASON DEAN: Man, still -- ok, what about that - that, uh, funny-looking little cousin of yours. Cousin Seamus. What the hell was he, one of the seven dwarves? PHOEBE: Uh, no, actually. He was a leprechaun. Not really my cousin. (Jason hangs his head and sighs in frustration. It's just too much for him.) PHOEBE: Look, Jason, I know how you feel - (He jumps on that statement.) JASON DEAN: How do I feel, Phoebe? Huh? Tell me, because ... because I don't know. But you, you always seem to know, so--so tell me, how's it gonna feel when I crash, 'cause I - I -- I see one coming? Is it gonna feel like when you said, "I love you, too"? Because that, that was magic, wasn't it? PHOEBE: (whispers painfully) But I do love you. (He turns away from her and heads back to his desk.) JASON DEAN: I don't -- I--I don't have time for this. PHOEBE: I didn't want you to find out like this, believe me. (He doesn't want to discuss it.) JASON DEAN: (flatly) I, uh ... I have to concentrate. I'm speaking in front of a hundred shareholders celebrating the second-biggest French media merger of the decade. Ok? (He picks up his briefcase and heads for the door.) JASON DEAN: So, uh ... I need to -- I need to focus. (Without looking at her, JASON walks out of the office.) CUT TO: [INT. CATACOMBS -- NIGHT] (PAIGE and PIPER walk through the catacomb tunnels.) PIPER: Hey, you're the one that wanted to look for the Swarm King in the first place, remember? PAIGE: Yeah. That's when I thought it was a hive, and not so much of a maze. (They turn the corner and groan.) PAIGE: Oh, no. Is this starting to look familiar? Are we - (They look down and see their shoeprints in the sand.) PIPER: ... going around in circles? PAIGE: (groans) Great. Let's just orb home. PIPER: Why are you in such a rush to go home all of a sudden? PAIGE: It's Richard. Anytime he's alone for too long, bad things start to happen. (In front of them, shadows cast on the walls move.) (PIPER starts to motion with her hands to blast the demons, but PAIGE stops her and pulls her off to the side.) PAIGE: No! It only attracts them more, remember? (They wait as a group of SWARM DEMONS cross the passageway in front of them.) PAIGE: Should we follow them? PIPER: Good idea. (PAIGE and PIPER start to follow the demons. They step out into the passageway and find themselves trapped when another group of SWARM DEMONS round the corner behind them.) PIPER: Now? PAIGE: (nods) Yeah. (PIPER motions and blasts the demons in the front. They explode.) CUT TO: [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR - NIGHT] [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - NIGHT] (RICHARD has the Book of Shadows open to the AURA CLEANSE spell. He quickly jots down an amended spell replacing "AURA" with "KARMA".) (He sighs and closes his eyes.) (He takes the amended spell and walks over to the center of the attic where a circle of five candles on stands surround the carpet. He sprinkles some powder on the ground in front of him, takes a deep breath, exhales and prepares to cast the spell.) RICHARD: (reading) I call to thee, pure witch's fire, through vortex flow the heavenly mire, cleanse brackish karma of debris, from dark to light, sweep history." (The candle flames flare and burn.) CUT TO: [OUTER SPACE VIEW OF THE EARTH] (High in the universe, all around the earth, white ribbon waves of swirling light-colored clouds rise from around the world. They swirl and travel down from the space above ... down through the atmosphere to the continents below ... down through the skies to the North American West Cost ... down to San Francisco ... to the city lights below ... straight down to the city blocks ... to a very specific house ... ) [ATTIC -- CONTINUOUS] (RICHARD looks up at the attic as the lights zoom straight toward him.) (The swirling white ribbons of light circle rapidly around RICHARD, swirling and swirling around him, not touching or harming him in any way. RICHARD stands in the center of the swirling light looking around him.) [INT. MANOR - FOYER / MAIN HALL - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS] (The front door opens and PHOEBE walks into the house.) PHOEBE: Hello? Anybody home? (She closes the door and puts her things down on the hallway table. She takes off her coat.) [ATTIC - CONTINUOUS] (The swirling lights swirl down through the attic floor.) [INT. MANOR - FOYER / MAIN HALL - NIGHT - CONTINUOUS] (The swirling lights swirl down through the foyer ceiling directly above PHOEBE.) (PHOEBE hangs up her coat and the swirling lights swirl around her and ... straight into her.) (She gasps as she has a vision.) (Quick flash of PHOEBE'S VISION: [EXT - DAY] A woman's voice shouts in French. A line of Soldiers dressed in uniform hold their rifles in front of them. The French officer unsheathes his sword. He shouts a command in French. The Soldiers raise their weapons to their shoulders. The woman's voice continues to shout in French. The soldiers ignore her and cock their weapons.) (The French officer shouts an order.) (The woman continues to shout.) (The Soldiers aim.) (Fire!) (The two rows of Soldiers, four standing and four crouched in the front, fire their weapons.) (End of VISION. Resume to present.) (The gunfire sends PHOEBE flying back into the hallway table knocking the flower vase to the floor. PHOEBE falls on her back.) (When she stops sliding on the floor, she glances down at her stomach. She's not dead.) (She looks around, wondering what's going on.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Qu'est-ce que c'est? FADE OUT. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR - DAY] (Establish.) [INT. MANOR - SITTING ROOM / MAIN HALL -- MORNING] (PAIGE and PIPER orb into the main hall. They look absolutely exhausted.) PIPER: How many did we get, fifteen or sixteen? (PAIGE lets out a huge yawn.) PAIGE: I don't know. I stopped counting at dawn. I'm gonna go crash. Actually, I'm gonna go check on Richard, and then I'm gonna go crash. PIPER: But wait. We know where the King is now, so we gotta get Phoebe so we can go back and get him. PAIGE: No! I am taking a hot bath and crawling into a nice warm bed. PIPER: You know, living at Richard's mansion has made you soft. PAIGE: Oh, shush. PIPER: I'm serious. What if this is the demon that gets to Wyatt? PAIGE: Well, then it's all the more reason for us to be well-rested, right? (PIPER looks and sees the broken vase and flowers on the floor.) PIPER: What happened here? (PHOEBE grandly glides down the stairs. She's wearing scarves. Lots and lots of scarves.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Bonjour. Bonjour. PAIGE: Bonjour?! What the heck are you wearing? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Oh, just a little something to help me win my boyfriend back. Showing a little skin never hurt. PAIGE: Oh, I'll file that away. PIPER: I guess it didn't go so good with Jason last night? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): No, unfortunately. Je ne sais pas pourquoi. PAIGE: Since when do you speak freedom fry? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): I don't know, actually. It's kinda weird, considering I hate the French. PIPER: No, you don't. You love everything about France. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): I do? Oh, then maybe I just hate being dumped. All the more reason to go get him. PIPER: Uh, just there's one thing. See, we kinda need The Power of Three for a vanquish. You know, to save your nephew's future and all. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Yeah. Sorry. I can't. Au revoir. (PHOEBE flits past them toward the front door. She opens the door and turns to look back at them.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Au revoir. (PHOEBE steps out of the house and closes the door behind her.) PIPER: Please tell me she didn't ... PAIGE: ... Cast a spell on herself? I think she did. CUT TO: [INT. CATACOMBS - DAY] (The SWARM KING puts a hand on the wall. He closes his eyes and raises his head to the ceiling.) SWARM KING: I can feel their pain. (louder) This is where they fought and died. (He turns around to address his troops. He looks at the SWARM GENERAL.) SWARM KING: Correct me if I'm wrong, but this was your division. SWARM GENERAL: I'm afraid it was. SWARM KING: Remember, this is going to hurt me much more than it hurts you. (The SWARM KING throws a fireball at the SWARM GENERAL, destroying him in a ball of fire.) (The SWARM KING takes a moment, then addresses his troops.) SWARM KING: It is time to bring the fight to them! Let The Charmed Ones feel our pain! CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - ATTIC - NIGHT] (PIPER and PAIGE find that the Book of Shadows is open to the AURA CLEANSE spell.) PIPER: I'm confused. How does cleansing her aura get Jason back? PAIGE: No, Phoebe didn't cast the spell. Richard did. PIPER: Richard wants Jason back? PAIGE: (thinking and putting it together) No. Richard wants to cleanse his karma. (realizes) Oh, my god. That's what he used the book for. Damn it. I shouldn't have left him alone. PIPER: Wait a second. What does this have to do with Phoebe? PAIGE: Karma is not something you mess with. Especially not magically. Whatever Richard did could've gone wonky and affected her somehow. I mean, there's always someone's unfinished karma just floating around out there, waiting to complete its cycle. PIPER: What the hell are you talking about? PAIGE: I'm talking about Richard screwing with the karmic wheel and Phoebe getting smacked down by it. She said it herself. She's been lying to Jason, living a double life. If that doesn't attract bad karma, I don't know what does. PIPER: Someone's unfinished bad karma? PAIGE: Exactly. Except whose? PIPER: Well, I'd guess a french hooker, by the way she's been acting. PAIGE: (sighs) Or worse. Ok, you go get Phoebe, I'll go get Richard. PIPER: But what if he's infected, too? (PAIGE turns and heads for the door.) PAIGE: Well, I'll save him, and then I'll kill him. CUT TO: [EXT. ACROSS THE BRIDGE - DAY] [INT. RICHARD'S RESIDENCE - LIVING ROOM -- DAY] (The front door opens and PAIGE walks in. RICHARD is sitting at his desk reading when he looks up and sees PAIGE angrily walk into the study.) PAIGE: Cast any spells lately? (He gets to his feet.) RICHARD: (guiltily) No. All right, yeah. One. It didn't work, though. PAIGE: How do you know? RICAHRD: Because. (PAIGE crosses her arms.) RICHARD: All right. I was cleansing my soul -- PAIGE: Yeah, yeah. Skip down to the bottom. What happened when you said the spell, exactly? RICHARD: Energy and light came down from the ceiling, and it surrounded me -- PAIGE: ... and hit Phoebe. RICHARD: No. I was there alone. PAIGE: Oh, yeah. You were alone. Ok, then, how do you explain my sister suddenly walking around like she's in the nudie version of Les Miz? RICHARD: I don't know. I don't know why it affected her and not me. PAIGE: Maybe because your family is surrounded by so much bad karma that there's no room for anybody else's. What were you thinking? RICHARD: I was thinking about us. PAIGE: Us? RICHARD: Yeah. I don't want my past to hurt you. PAIGE: Richard, I know that you mean well. I really do. And I get that it must be so hard to not practice magic when you can. But you can't-- RICHARD: How can you be with a guy that's got a problem with the very thing you're all about? (realizes) I have an idea. (RICHARD moves toward the potions room.) RICHARD: I have a potion that'll help Phoebe. PAIGE: Richard-- RICHARD: What? PAIGE: Stop. RICHARD: I can't. I did this. I need to fix it. (RICHARD puts his hands on the cabinet ready to move it out of the way. PAIGE stops him.) PAIGE: No. Hey. Please. Just ... no more magic. (Tired, PAIGE walks away from RICHARD.) CUT TO: [EXT. OFFICE BUILDINGS - DAY] [INT. STEVE MONTANA'S OFFICE -- DAY] (RICHARD walks into STEVE MONTANA'S office.) RICHARD: Hey, bro. (He closes the door behind him. STEVE smiles and gets to his feet to greet his brother.) STEVE MONTANA: Richard. Man. How the hell have you been? (They hug each other.) RICHARD: Good. Good. You know. Wow. You look good. You got your hair cut. STEVE MONTANA: Yeah, for court. I'm doing pro bono now. RICHARD: A do-gooder. Wow, you. STEVE MONTANA: Yeah, I needed a change in my life. So, mom's been worried. No one's heard from you. Staying out of trouble, I hope? RICHARD: Yeah, more or less. STEVE MONTANA: So, uh, you still seeing Paige? RICHARD: Absolutely. I can't imagine life without her. STEVE MONTANA: Well, it sounds serious. RICHARD: I hope so. STEVE MONTANA: Well, here, man. Take a seat. RICHARD: Actually, I can't. I gotta go. Listen, I've been going through some of the old potion books just for the hell of it, and I can't find that one dad used to use to banish spirits. Do you know where it is? STEVE MONTANA: I thought we both agreed not to mess with that stuff anymore. RICHARD: I'm not. Not ... really. It's hard to explain. Do you know where it is? STEVE MONTANA: Oh, Richard ... RICHARD: Look, save the speech. Can you help me or not? STEVE MONTANA: Why? What'd you do? RICHARD: (doesn't look at him) Nothing. STEVE MONTANA: Are people hurt? Do you need -- RICHARD: (angry) Damn it, Steve! Can you help me or not? (STEVE doesn't say anything.) RICHARD: Please? CUT TO: [EXT. HOTEL - DAY] (The black limo comes to a stop. Reflected off of its shiny finish is the image of PHOEBE standing just outside waiting for JASON.) (JASON rolls the window down and is surprised to see her there. JASON DEAN: What are you doing here? (JASON gets out of the limo.) JASON DEAN: And what are you wearing? (She pulls him to her and puts her arms around his neck.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): I'm looking for you, mon petit choux. (JASON pulls her arms away from him and steps past her.) JASON DEAN: Look, I ... don't have time for this. This is crazy. (She chases after him and teases him with her scarf.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): You have every right to be very upset with me. I know I've been a very, very bad girl. Please let me make it up to you. JASON DEAN: I don't think so. (He turns to walk away from her, but she pulls him back toward her.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): (hard) What do you mean, you don't think so? JASON DEAN: Hey, take it easy, Phoebe. We'll talk about it later, ok? Right now I'm running late. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): There's always time for l'amour. (She tries to kiss him, but he again pulls away from her.) JASON DEAN: Whoa. Uh ... listen, this is - I -- this merger is very important to me, ok? I need to keep a clear head, if that's at all possible. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): (scoffs) Are you saying you don't want me? JASON DEAN: Not right now, ok? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): (angry) Cochon! You pig! Quel est ton probleme? Fils de pute! JASON DEAN: You're crazy. (JASON turns and walks away from PHOEBE into the hotel leaving her standing out in front yelling at him.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): You think you could just walk away from me? You think I'm crazy? You think this is crazy?! Just wait. CUT TO: [INT. HOTEL - BANQUET HALL -- DAY] (The banquet hall is filled with people and food. Up on stage giving his speech is JASON DEAN.) JASON DEAN: In the climate of this world economy, diversity is essential. And that is why this merger is essential, if we want to grow as a company. Combining resources will allow us to tap into markets that would have otherwise remained beyond our reach. (The group of shareholders applaud.) JASON DEAN: And so, today we celebrate a new Franco-American business community, in which bilateral trade is not only encouraged -- (The microphone whines with feed back. JASON stops as he waits for the it to clear.) (As he pauses, music begins. It appears to come from the back of the room. The audience slowly turns around and clear a path to the doorway where we find ... (PHOEBE, arms outstretched and in a pose.) (The spotlights shine on her.) (PHOEBE slowly makes her way toward the stage, removing scarves as she does.) (Finally, she steps up onto the stage.) JASON DEAN: (softly) What the hell are you doing? (PHOEBE drapes a scarf on JASON'S shoulders as she circles around JASON and around the podium.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): You turned on me. You rejected me. And I'd say that you'd live to regret it, but you won't. JASON DEAN: This isn't a game. (PHOEBE faces the audience and holds up a scarf.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Voila! (Members of the media snap photos. JASON removes his jacket and covers her.) JASON DEAN: Jeez. Phoebe, you can't do this. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Oh, no? Pourquoi pas? Watch me. (She tears the jacket off of her and steps forward. With her first curse, she throws the scarf into the audience.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Curses on this merger. (The scarf float down onto the audience. The male members of the audience raise their hands trying to catch the scarf.) (They miss and the scarf falls to the floor.) (The corks in the champagne bottles on the side pop sending streams of champagne straight into the air.) (The audience starts screaming.) (The plates of food change into live snails and live frogs. More plates of cooked poultry turn into live pigeons.) (All around her, chaos ensues as the audience has to deal with the champagne and the moving food. PHOEBE stands mid-stage and enjoys it all.) (JASON grabs PHOEBE'S arm.) JASON DEAN: Phoebe, stop this. (She turns and pushes him away from her. He falls to the floor.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): You let go of me! JASON DEAN: Are you trying to ruin me? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Oh, that's just the hors d'oeuvre. Wait until you see the entrée. It's to die for. (PHOEBE reaches down to grab JASON and promptly freezes. In fact, the entire room freezes.) (Standing near the doorway, her hands out in front of her, is PIPER. She looks around at the mess. She weaves her way through the people as she makes her way rapidly toward the stage.) PIPER: Leo! (PIPER gets up on stage.) PIPER: Leo! Leo! (LEO orbs on stage. He looks around at the mess.) LEO: Whoa. PIPER: Yeah. (LEO finally notices PHOEBE.) LEO: Wh - why is Phoebe frozen? PIPER: That's not Phoebe. LEO: What do you mean? PIPER: Long story. Let's get out of here. LEO: What about all this? PIPER: Later. Later. (PIPER touches LEO and PHOEBE and they orb out.) (As soon as they're gone, the room unfreezes and bedlam resumes. People are screaming, champagne streams into the air. JASON looks around and notices PHOEBE'S gone.) JASON DEAN: Phoebe? (He gets to his feet and sees the mess. He turns and sees the ice sculpture of the Eiffel tower tip over and fall off the table smashing to the floor.) FADE OUT. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [EXT. HALLIWELL MANOR - DAY] (Establish.) [INT MANOR - CONSERVATORY - DAY] (PHOEBE falls back onto the chair as PIPER tosses her something to wear. In the back of the room, PAIGE reads through some books as LEO watches.) PIPER: Sit down and put this on. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): I'm not finished with my revenge. PIPER: Sit, or I will freeze. We need to figure out whose karma you've got. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): I'll never tell. Je ne fait pas ca. PAIGE: Ok. She's French. Bad karma. Napoleon? PIPER: Probably not. LEO: Phoebe's not our only problem. That entire auditorium saw her use magic. PIPER: Well, we fix Phoebe first, and then we take care of the Swarm King, and if we're still alive after that, we'll worry about it then. (PHOEBE sighs heavily.) PIPER: (to LEO) Maybe you should go check on Wyatt and make sure he's ok. LEO: He's fine. (PIPER gives him a "look".) LEO: Ok, I'll go check. (LEO orbs out of the room. PIPER walks over to the Book of Shadows and opens it.) PIPER: I'll see if I can piece together a spell to de-karma Phoebe. PAIGE: Ok, what about, uh ... Marie Antoinette? Queen Isabella, the she-wolf of France? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Oh! Now you insult me. I can't stand France. PIPER: Vital clue there. PAIGE: Ok, let's see. Speaks French, hates the country, more than willing to strip in public -- Oh, my god. I saw something in here. (PAIGE opens the book and starts reading.) PAIGE: "Famous female spies." Mata Hari. (PHOEBE'S eyes narrow.) PIPER: Wasn't she one of the Bond girls? PAIGE: No. Look ... (PAIGE flips to another portion of the book.) PAIGE: "An exotic stripper in Paris, Dutch-born, double agent for Germany during World War I." It says here, "Mata Hari was convicted by French officials and executed by a firing squad." PIPER: Well, no wonder she hates the French. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Not half as much as I hate you for keeping me here. I need my freedom. I need my revenge. PIPER: What does her karma have to do with Phoebe? PAIGE: Well, duplicitous, living a double life ... ring any bells? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Enough! (PHOEBE tosses the jacket aside and dramatically gets to her feet.) PIPER: Where are you going? (She heads for the front door.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Au revoir. (PIPER freezes her and calmly walks over to stand in front of PHOEBE. PAIGE follows her.) (She unfreezes PHOEBE.) PHOEBE: Aah! PIPER: Look, it's two against one, and you are not going any -- (In the room behind them, two SWARM DEMONS appear in the house.) (PAIGE knocks PHOEBE to the side. The SWARM DEMONS throw their fire balls; one hits PIPER in the shoulder.) (She falls to the ground then immediately gets up and blasts them.) PIPER: (glances at her arm) Why am I always the one getting hit? (Three more SWARM DEMONS appear in the sitting room, their backs to the girls. PHOEBE gets up and shouts out to them.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Behind you! (The SWARM DEMONS turn around. PIPER blasts them; the two front SWARM DEMONS duck to the side while the third standing in the middle explodes.) (A DEMON throws his fireball at PIPER; she ducks and it misses her. Another DEMON appears and throws his fireball at PAIGE. It grazes her shoulder.) SWARM DEMON: (points to PHOEBE) Take her! (The SWARM DEMONS leave with PHOEBE.) (After they're gone, PIPER gets to her feet.) PIPER: Oh! (Both of them look at their injured shoulders.) PAIGE: Am I crazy, or is she trying to save them from us? CUT TO: [INT. CATACOMBS -- CONTINUOUS] (In the main catacombs, the SWARM KING addresses his troops.) SWARM KING: I didn't tell you to bring her here. I ordered you to kill them. SWARM DEMON: The Charmed Ones were all together. We were lucky to grab one and get away. (Two SWARM DEMONS hold PHOEBE by her arms to which she really looks bored and draped over them.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Oh, luck had nothing to do with it. I saved your butts back there. (She turns and looks at the SWARM KING.) Excuse me, are you in charge here? SWARM KING: I am. (PHOEBE pulls herself free of the DEMONS hold. She walks over to the SWARM KING.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Good ... because I'd like to get into bed with you. Not literally ... although there may be time for that later. (PHOEBE removes a scarf and drapes it around the SWARM KING'S neck.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): What I'm saying is ... if you help me, I'll help you. (She smiles at him. He takes the scarf off from around his neck and wraps it around hers. She doesn't flinch.) SWARM KING: You think I'm a fool? Saving my drones to gain my favor? I'm not one to fall for tricks. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): This isn't a trick. Hands off me. (PHOEBE takes her scarf back and takes a couple steps away as she explains herself.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): The witches have double-crossed me. They want to keep me against my will. SWARM KING: So do I. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Yeah. Let me guess. To lure them here so you could kill all of us? Yeah, see, you're not the first demon to try that and fail. They've got good karma, centuries of it. It's what protects them ... us. SWARM KING: And what is it that you suggest? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Well, I was hoping that you could help me create some bad karma for them by ... oh, I don't know, maybe killing an innocent? SWARM KING: Who did you have in mind? (PHOEBE smiles.) CUT TO: [INT. BAY MIRROR - JASON'S OFFICE -- DAY] (JASON reaches for his jacket slung over the back of his chair. There's a light knock on the door and he sees RICHARD walk in.) RICHARD: Jason. JASON DEAN: What are you doing here? RICHARD: I'm looking for Phoebe. Have you seen her? JASON DEAN: Not since she destroyed my career, no. Listen, I gotta give a press conference, try to salvage what's left of my reputation. RICHARD: Don't go, all right? I know how you feel. JASON DEAN: Oh, you know how I feel? Do you know how it feels to have the woman you love lie to you? To turn your one shining moment into chaos and to ... strip in front of a packed auditorium? (JASON just has to sit down. Even he can't believe what's happened so far.) RICHARD: No. Look, it's not her fault, all right? You want to blame somebody, blame me. I -- I cast the spell that -- JASON DEAN: Hold on. (JASON gets to his feet.) JASON DEAN: You, too? RICHARD: Yeah. (RICHARD reaches into his pocket and takes out a vial.) RICHARD: Look, there's no time to explain. Just--just take this, please. The moment you see Phoebe, you throw this at her. She'll be back to normal, I promise. JASON DEAN: Wait a second. What is that? RICHARD: It's a potion. JASON DEAN: Get outta here. RICHARD: Look, I screwed up big time, all right? The only way to fix this is to use this on Phoebe. If you love her, you'll do it. (Rather than wait for a response, RICHARD tucks the vial in JASON'S front breast pocket. JASON sighs, shakes his head and walks out of the room.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - KITCHEN - DAY] (PIPER and PAIGE sit on the sofa tending to each other's wounds.) PIPER: Ow! PAIGE: Ow! PIPER: Well, if you would just hold still. PAIGE: Fine. There. (PAIGE pushes the cloth into PIPER'S wound.) PIPER: Ow. PAIGE: You're done. You know, we wouldn't even be in this mess if it weren't for Phoebe not being able to deal with conflict. PIPER: Actually, we wouldn't be in this mess if your boyfriend could handle his magic. (PIPER presses a bandaid into PAIGE'S wound.) PAIGE: Ow! (accusing) You did that on purpose! PIPER: Yes, I did. PAIGE: Maybe we should just focus on how to save Phoebe. PIPER: Well, we could storm the hive, but then again, she'd probably just help them stop us. PAIGE: Oh, that's just Mata Hari coming through using whoever she can to exact her revenge. PIPER: But against who? The men who put her to death are long gone, and besides, doesn't her real karma eventually lead to her own self-destruction anyway? PAIGE: Well, I think that's why we need to figure out why she's using Phoebe before it's too late, right? PIPER: Which brings us back to Mata Hari's revenge. PAIGE: Ok. She spent her life pleasing men, only to be betrayed by them at the end. PIPER: Oh, no. PAIGE: What? PIPER: What if she wants to return the favor? CUT TO: [EXT. BAY MIRROR - LOADING DOCK -- DAY] (PAIGE and PIPER orb in behind a large truck. In the front, they hear the commotion caused by the reporters.) REPORTERS: Mr. Dean! Mr. Dean! REPORTERS: Just one question REPORTERS: Mr. Dean! Mr. Dean! REPORTERS: We need a quote! What happened this morning? (They see a group of reporters converging on JASON DEAN as he tries to get to his limo. He opens the door, then turns to address them.) REPORTERS: Please tell us! Mr. Dean! JASON DEAN: Listen up, folks. I'll answer everything at the press conference. Please. Do me a favor and hold your questions until then. (Inside the limo, PHOEBE waits for JASON.) REPORTERS: Mr. Dean! Mr. Dean! REPORTERS: Please! Please! (JASON slips into the limo and closes the door.) [INT. LIMO (PARKED) - CONTINUOUS] (JASON sits in the limo.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Hello, Jason. JASON DEAN: Phoebe, I've had enough. (Two SWARM DEMONS, one on either side of JASON, appear.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Shh. I always get my man. JASON: Wait! Hang on a sec - CUE SOUND: DEMONS VANISHING. (PAIGE opens the limo door. She and PIPER look into the limo and see that its empty.) FADE OUT. (COMMERCIAL SET) FADE IN. [INT. CATACOMBS -- DAY] (PIPER and PAIGE turn the corner.) PAIGE: I swear this is where we found The King last time. (They continue walking through the catacombs.) PIPER: Well, maybe your orbing was off. PAIGE: My orbing was not off. They just moved. PIPER: Well, we should be hearing the swarm. So why don't we? PAIGE: I don't know. 'Cause there's like a jillion miles of this stupid maze? They could be anywhere. PIPER: We don't even know if Phoebe is here. PAIGE: Well, it's our best bet. I swear, if she is hurt, I am never going to forgive Richard. PIPER: I think Jason's the one we need to worry about right now. (They walk out of camera frame.) CUT TO: [INT. CATACOMBS - DAY -- CONTINUOUS] (A line of SWARM DEMONS face JASON.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Such a sweet man ... and such a horrible way to die. I almost want to cry ... almost. JASON DEAN: What are you doing? Please stop this game. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Life is a game. The last one standing wins ... and that would be me. JASON DEAN: I get it. You're trying to teach me a lesson. I get it. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): No lesson. I just don't like being betrayed. (JASON points to the SWARM KING.) JASON DEAN: Well, what about him? Won't he betray you? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Good-bye, mon amour. JASON DEAN: Phoebe, please, I'm--I'm begging you. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Oh, don't beg. I stared at my killer right in the eye. It's a much more dignified way to die. (JASON puts it together and realizes.) JASON DEAN: Richard was right. PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Who? (The SWARM KING raises his hand.) SWARM KING: Enough! Can we please get on with this? PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Ready? (One by one, the SWARM DEMONS power up a fireball in the palms of their right hands.) (JASON pats his shirt and coat pockets looking for the vial. He finds it.) PHOEBE (W/MATA HARI'S KARMA): Aim. (He takes the vial out of his shirt pocket. The SWARM DEMONS pull back.) (Without preamble, JASON throws the potions vial at PHOEBE. It breaks at her feet and a white cloud of smoke rises. PHOEBE'S stomach glows bright white, the whispy ribbon streams leave her and rise up into the air.) (MATA HARI'S KARMA is gone.) (PHOEBE turns and sees the DEMON firing squad. She turns and sees who they're firing at: JASON.) PHOEBE: (shouts) No! [PIPER / PAIGE] (PIPER and PAIGE hear PHOEBE'S shout echoing through the tunnels.) [PHOEBE] SWARM KING: Fire! (The SWARM DEMONS throw their fireballs at JASON. PHOEBE turns around. Standing between JASON and the DEMON firing squad, she channels the fireballs back to the SWARM DEMONS, blasting half of the firing squad with their own fireballs.) (She grabs JASON and pulls him with her behind the stone wall.) (PIPER and PAIGE orb in. PIPER ducks as a fireball whizzes by her and explodes against the wall behind them.) PIPER: Oh! (They quickly move around the wall to where PHOEBE and JASON are.) PHOEBE: Oh, thank god. I'm so happy to see you guys. PAIGE: You're you. PHOEBE: (smiling) Yeah. (Another fireball flies by them and hits the wall. They duck.) PAIGE: But how? PIPER: (interrupts) Ok. Reunion later. Slay now. SWARM KING: (pointing) Fire! Fire at her! (The SWARM DEMONS let loose another salvo of fireballs.) (PIPER takes out the spell and they gather around to recite it.) ALL: (reciting) Demon swarm that serves as one, vanquish him from which they come. (The SWARM KING catches on fire, burns and explodes. Once the SWARM KING is gone, the SWARM DEMONS all explode also.) (PHOEBE turns to look at JASON.) PHOEBE: Jason. (She walks up to him.) PHOEBE: (regretfully) I'm so sorry. I'm so, so sorry. JASON DEAN: Me, too. PIPER: I hate to break this up. I really do, but we gotta go. PAIGE: How did you get rid of Mata Hari's karma? JASON DEAN: Who? PIPER: Don't ask. (PHOEBE turns to JASON.) PHOEBE: Where did you get the potion from? JASON DEAN: I got it from Richard. He said it would be the only thing that might save you. (PHOEBE and PIPER both turn to look at PAIGE.) PAIGE: Richard? CUT TO: [INT. RICHARD'S RESIDENCE - LIVING ROOM -- NIGHT] (Camera slowly pans around the empty foyer, moving slowly across the main hall to the wall where RICHARD opens the potions room door.) (He flicks on the light and pauses for a moment in the doorway looking at the potions and ingredients of every kind lining the wall shelves. There's a wild look in his eyes as he takes it all in.) (Making his decision, he steps into the room and turns around closing the heavy door behind him.) (Lightning flashes.) CUT TO: [INT. MANOR - WYATT'S ROOM -- NIGHT] (Thunder rumbles.) (PIPER carries WYATT across his room and puts him into the play pen. LEO stands in front of the closet putting WYATT'S clothes away.) LEO: You ok? PIPER: Oh, yeah, you know ... considering I'm the mother of the future leader of all evil. (PIPER looks at WYATT, straightening out his hair with a gentle mother's touch.) LEO: (counters) No, you're not. Ok, maybe you won't be now that you took care of the last threat on him. PIPER: You know as well as I do that was not the last threat. There will be others. LEO: And you'll take care of them, too. Especially now that we know what can happen. After all, well aware is half there. (PIPER scrunches her face and looks at LEO.) PIPER: Did Phoebe give you that psychobabble? LEO: (smiles sheepishly) Um ... PIPER: Hmm. I just don't understand how someone so sweet could possibly turn ... so bad. LEO: I don't believe he will, despite what Chris says. Or ... maybe because of it, we won't let it. You know, Piper, all parents worry about their kids. It's part of the job description. We just have to have faith. PIPER: Yeah, but Wyatt isn't just any kid. LEO: And we're not just any parents, either. PIPER: Well, at least we know he'll inherit all of our family's good karma, and that should help. LEO: I hope it helps Phoebe, too. She still has what happened at Jason's banquet to worry about. CUT TO: [EXT. HOTEL - FRONT DRIVE -- NIGHT] (It's raining heavily outside; more thunder rumbles. The doorman opens the limo's door and holds out the umbrella. JASON steps outside and hunkers down as he wraps his overcoat securely around himself. He walks over to the front door, the doorman holding the umbrella over him.) PHOEBE: (o.s.) Jason! (JASON turns around when he hears PHOEBE calling his name. He sees her running across the street in the pouring rain. She's drenched.) PHOEBE: Jason! JASON DEAN: Phoebe! (PHOEBE and JASON stand outside the hotel door.) PHOEBE: I want to talk to the press. I want to tell them everything. JASON DEAN: Right. What are you gonna do? Tell them you're a witch? That'll make the headlines. PHOEBE: Uh, actually, I didn't think about what I was gonna say to them. I just know that I can't let you take the fall for this. I am so sorry about everything. The lies, and -- JASON DEAN: Hey. (shakes his head) Don't. Remember you saved me. PHOEBE: Yeah, but that was after I tried to kill you. JASON DEAN: Well, there was that. (PHOEBE sniffles, her face wet the rain mingled with her tears.) PHOEBE: If I could do it all over again, I would tell you the truth. JASON DEAN: Gimme a break, Phoebe. What are you gonna do? What are you gonna tell me? And besides, I was ... I was so wrapped up in my career and dragging you around the world, I never gave you a chance. PHOEBE: So, uh ... what do we do now? JASON DEAN: I don't know. Maybe we should just ... both take some time. (PHOEBE doesn't look at him, but nods her head.) (JASON takes a breath and looks at the door.) JASON DEAN: They're waiting for me. (PHOEBE turns and looks at the door.) PHOEBE: I wish you'd let me talk to them. JASON DEAN: No. No, what--what you and you sisters do, what I saw you do, it, uh ... put some perspective on my work. I want to protect that. PHOEBE: You might lose the merger. JASON DEAN: I've lost worse. (Phoebe smiles sadly. Jason reaches out and caresses her cheek. He pulls her toward him and they kiss. Phoebe turns and heads back into the pouring rain.) (Before she goes, she turns around one last time to see Jason standing in front of the door. He takes a moment, then opens the door to slip inside.) (When the door opens, the reporter's inside immediately start calling his name, cameras flashing.) REPORTERS: Mr. Dean! REPORTERS: Mr. Dean! REPORTERS: Mr. Dean! (The door closes behind him.) (Phoebe turns and heads back into the pouring rain, walking slowly down the road ... alone.)
